In my mid forties I was prescribed BP medication for hypertension. I get quite a few fluttering/ ectopic beats at times but can go months without them ( or not notice). I also take statins for cholesterol. Sometime ago I saw a cardiologist after wearing a monitor for 24hrs as I had had an irregular

I have PAF and it’s been recommended I start Apixaban. I’m worried about possible bleeds but also by the recommendation to give up riding my motorcycle and any other activities that might cause injury . Also been told not to drink alcohol.I am very active around home and often using chainsaw and working

Arthritis or hyper mobility?
Hi, I’m new to this and to be honest I’m not even sure if I’m in the right place but here goes. A little bit of background, I used to do a lot of judo when I was in my early 20’s and I used to work in a shop, lugging in deliveries etc. Did this for a lot of years and then got a second job in a Post

Heart Issues but otherwise healthy
Hi all, I live in the Panhandle of Florida. I am fairly active even though I have an artificial heart valve and a pacemaker. I try to stay healthy by eating the right foods and limiting vitamin K to keep my INR stable but every now and then, I have a question about diet and INR results.

Apixaban+Aspirin - v- Clopidogrel
Condition: Atrial Fibrillation + unstable Angina; has bare metal stents; aged 94. Long-term NOAC Apixaban+Aspirin was recommended by hospital Consultant after serious angina attack. Before A+A, prescription was for Clopidogrel+Aspirin. GP stopped A+A and now prescibes only Clopidogrel. How would this

AV Node Ablation
80 years old in Sept and still plagued by afib. Pacemaker fitted in May 2021 and awaiting next step which I’m sure will be AV node ablation – last stop saloon! But is this the only option? The last ablation in 2013 lasted 5 years and possibly longer if severe Mitral regurgitation hadn’t triggered it.

It’s been seven hours and 49 days...
Been tough 7 weeks since calf injury with physio treatment and losing much of my hard earned fitness, more importantly slowing my recovery from heart surgery which was a key motivational factor for me doing this... This weekend picked myself up, dusted off trainers unsure on fitness levels tentatively

Mechanical Valve - Ticking Noise
I'm new here and I have been recommended to have open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve with a mechanical valve. One of my concerns is the "ticking" or "thumping" noise. I was wondering if anyone has had the mechanical valve replacement surgery and have they experienced the noise? If so, how

For cholesterol blood test or Calcium Score?
Please read this true interesting story. NHS still not doing Calcium score, private test can cost up to £ 150.00 pounds! "But he was alarmed to discover that, aged 42, his cholesterol levels were high, at 8.5 — with his level of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol at 6.2. His GP advised that he start on statins immediately

Counting down the days till the op.
Hello, Any advise would be welcome. As a couple we are now waiting for my husband to have double heart bypass surgery on 10th June. Every morning waking up to the reality is hard. The physical tips I’m reading is helpful but how do you recognise the emotional side is getting to much and seek help.

Meditation to Inner Peace. ❤️☀️☮️☯️🌻🧘🏻♀️🌈🙏
Meditation is a simple practice yet such a phenomenon with many health benefits for our body and mind. We are consumed with life events as there are always constant background noises from our mind and our surroundings. Meditation is a simple phenomenon that for a single moment, when I am not doing anything

To ablate or not to ablate...etc
I finally received a telephone consultation, 6 months after my A&E admission for a fast AF. The A&E discharge report said "AF disorder SUSPECTED", and recommended a 24-hour ECG. The latest AF is only my second event in 5 years. I had an AF a year after my heart attack (stent inserted); the consultant

Hey everyone. I hope you're all looking after yourselves. I haven't posted here for a while - evidence that my post-AVR life is going well I'm pleased to say. This is just a short post to say I've been asked by Guy's and St Thomas's (the hospital where I had my AVR in 2018) to take part in a virtual
