How low should your blood sugar go during a fast?
I just cut short a 72 hour fast at 54 hours because my blood glucose went down to 51. My ketones were 3.2 and GKI 0.89. I did feel shaky but could complete activities. We went on a hilly hike that day. It was right before bed so I was a little nervous to go to sleep with it that low. Any thoughts

What to do about high blood glucose level?
What to do about high blood sugars? I tested 12 yesterday this is new to me. I’m not diabetic and not obese etc. I had a test in December and was at 10 which is borderline but my HbA1c was normal. I’m a previously fit 48 year old woman. Asthma since having children 10 years or so. This past year I’ve

Diabetes and RA
Unfortunatly I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in January. It was all a bit dramatic as it happened within a 24 hour period. My blood glucose was 22 and my ketone reading 7. Controlling it is a work in progress.....however the meds for this seem to be having an adverse effect on my RA meds. Are there

Vitamin D supplementation
Hello all. I wonder if somebody may be able to advise a suitable supplement to help raise my daughters Vitamin D level. She had lots of tests done as she has acne and doctor is checking a lot of things before starting treatments. She has just turned 16. Her Vitamin D came back slightly under at: 47nmol

Could be be hypothyroid/subclinical?
Hello, I have been experiencing hair loss, cold hands/feet for about 3 years or so. And for the last few months I have been experiencing bad fatigue, brain fog and dry gritty eyes and thin eyebrows and also irregular periods. I recently did one of those blood tests online, where you send in a blood

Concerns with Metformin
I am at Stage 4 CKD. I read in some posts the concern over Metformin. I am taking Janumet. What more should I know to determine if I should keep taking Janumet. It has kept my blood glucose in check while I have been eating more carbs (to replace some of the energy I have been losing by cutting back

New - Coping with the Anxiety?
dear all, as you know was diagnosed last Sunday in A&E. Thought was coping each day, but as the evenings turn to night, I get more anxious and lie awake. Also, diabetes not great, so I am worrying on 2 fronts (1 not helping the other). Any ideas on coping with the anxiety until I can see a cardiologist

Hi my friends, Well thanks again for all your kind and interesting replies to my pre-diabetes post. Ever hopeful I had a repeat HbA1c on Christmas eve, and what do you know? It had gone up, despite all my giving up sweet and processed foods, from 44 to 48. WHY??? So after all that effort I now officially

Sudden weight loss in adults linked to type 1!!
The 62-year-old lost three stone in recent months as family urged him to see GP. There has been many articles in the Mail on line, sudden weight loss and type 1 and type 2 diabetes. "Both forms of diabetes share common symptoms, although people suffering from type 1 will display them more quickly.

Type 2 blood glucose kit
Hi again. Thanks for the laughs about my stay in hospital. I had my blood sugar tested a couple of times and would love to get to grips with this by myself. So would happily buy a testing kit. Any recommendations? Amazon is my preferred source for buying stuff. Ta. David

Fructosamine test
The difference in the tests is that the Fructosamine measures the average over a period of 2-3 weeks, while the HbA1C measures the average over a period of 2-3 months. The HbA1C test reveals more long-term glucose control, while the fructosamine test reveals short-term. Fructosamine testing may be used

How should you break your fast?
There are about as many different strategies for breaking a fast as there are for fasting. Carbohydrate spikes blood glucose, which spikes insulin, which rapidly brings down your blood glucose - making you hungry. I do not need to be on a keto or very low carb diet, and my regular daily carb breakfast
