Can we regenerate damaged organs in the lab?
I responded to someone’s question earlier about the need for liver transplants in the future. While looking at some videos online, I came across this one entitled “Can we regenerate damaged organs in the lab?”. I felt this video story which was put up recently (Feb 21) was just too good a story to warrant

Hello, I am new here. I'm wondering at what point do the specialist decide to put you forward for a liver transplant? I am now in a position where we are being told it is too late as my mum would not survive the surgery and she is too weak. she went in for a regular drain of the ascites fluid and

Hepatopulmonary Shunt/Syndrome
Hi, I was diagnosed with a Hepatopulmonary shunt/syndrome (HPS) approx. 4 weeks ago now by a sonographer after a bubble echo study was performed (various other tests where carried out beforehand) and will be seeing a consultant next week. I have had cirrhosis for over 10 years now and have been tee-total

Variceal bleed
Last week wasn't fun. I had recently read the book by The Reverend Richard Coles "The Madness of Grief"- most unwise and I don't recommend it. His husband died from chronic alcoholism and a bleed. On Wednesday I started throwing up a lot of blood. Was on my own, terrified and convinced I was dying, called

Stages of liver disease
Hi all and good evening. Could anyone give a rough description of what it felt like physically for you to go through the stages of liver disease? The only pains I really get is stomach ache. I never get any discomfort under my ribs in the liver area at the front but I do get daily discomfort around the

What happens to ascites post TIPSS procedure?
Hi I have a question to any members who have had a TIPS shunt: what happens to ascites after the procedure? Father in law is being referred for assessment, as he has been having fortnightly drains for refractory ascites for many months. I think the shunt redirects fluid to renal system so does that mean

Wondering if anyone here has experience with an Endoscopic Liver Biopsy to check on PBC /AIH staging?
Anyone here had a liver biopsy done via and EUS / Endoscopy? Back in 2013, I had a traditional liver biopsy and apparently this is a new technique for performing more procedures at once using needle aspiration guided by ultrasound. I am curious what the recovery time is versus the older method. Also,

Worried about liver disease
Hi all, First time poster here, severely worried about my liver. I’m 38 and have a 10+ year history of alcohol abuse. However, 3 years ago after developing abdominal pain on my right side I very gradually slowed down. I was down to less than 15 units/week last year and have been completely sober for

ALT and AST?
I noticed my liver hurting more than usual in the past month, my abdomen more bloated, and generally feeling not well. I am always severely fatigued and when diagnosed in January 2017, I was already in Stage 2-3 fibrosis, shown on an MRE. My liver numbers were never particularly elevated, the worst my

Has anyone been diagnosed with AIH wrongly?
My 20 year old son has been having blood tests for over a year (due to the pandemic all follow up appointments were cancelled) I’ve been chasing the hospital constantly to give a diagnosis but each time they’ve said do more tests. Finally last week a consultant told him he’s possibly got AIH. This has

Alcohol detox
I wrote last week about my partners detox. From 1litre of vodka a day to.. Well, he ceased all alcohol on Sunday after reducing from Weds. A little shaky for a couple of days. Diarrhoea on Monday but now no outward effects to be seen. He is in good spirits. He’s eating and exercising/walking. The ease
