Why Levodopa and Dopamine Medicines Should Be Avoided in Parkinson’s Disease: A Deeper Ayurvedic Perspective

❌ Krauncha seeds (Mucuna) contain L-Dopa but do not stop neuron degeneration. This can be a herbal claim- not ayurvedic.

❌ It follows the same temporary relief mechanism as synthetic Levodopa.

❌ No Ayurvedic text recommends Krauncha for Parkinson’s disease treatment.

❌ Patients experience the same “on-off” phenomenon and increased dosage needs.

Conclusion: Krauncha seed powder is just another form of Levodopa and not a solution for Parkinson’s disease.

Do you know anyone who has taken this "cure"? and have they improved?

I did not see any cure suggested here. All we have is advice telling us not to use levodopa, without any offer to come care for those who are non-functional as a result.

I didn't much care for the reasoning expressed either.

feels more like a sales pitch than a solution

This is marketing material for a wellness clinic. Panchkarma is not an Ayurveda treatment. It's a lifestyle model to preserve good health.

Interestingly I am aware that mucuna is rarely used in classical Ayurveda schools of medicine in Parkinsons treatment.

It is primarily marketed as androgen for virility.

We are doing a Free webinar on Ayurvedic Healing in Parkinson's on world Parkinson Day. It is much more than a simple drug. We do not apply it here at European Parkinson Therapy Centre but we are happy to review it and many other things in our monthly webinars (recent webinars were with Ray Chaudhuri, Michelle Hu, Francesca Morgante. All can be seen on our site. I will ask about "Krauncha seed powder".

God Bless

Is there a reason provided why they should be avoided?

I am sure most of PwP never expected a cure from MP; however, it's neuroprotective (it doesn't contain only levedopa, but other nutrients that are nonexistent in the pharmaceutical form, and has less side effects. One can take a combination of both, MP and the pharmaceutical form.
