An interesting article in Podiatry Management.

It appears that podiatrists know more about RLS than most UK medics.

Maybe we should all be seeing podiatrists instead of GPs.

They refer to the Mayo Clinic Algorithm , and do stress that dopamine agonists are second line treatment- BUT also that dopamine agonists should be closely monitored.

I can well believe that podiatrists do know more than doctors about RLS!

That's great and interesting! At first I was very surprised they would have anything to do with RLS but in checking they do treat foot, ankle, and lower limb injuries, diseases, and disorders

Great article Joolsg! Thank you.

It seems that anyone who cares to pay attention to the facts about RLS comes up with reasonable knowledge and ideas about treatment.

Therefore, there must be a reason that many of the experts and all of the relevant pharmaceutical companies who, by definition, know lots more about RLS….. why they are singing a different management tune…

There are and have been for 20+ years, criminal forces at work here… The BuFGs as I like to call them…. And all for the sake of 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

(Big unFriendly Giants !)

I did an interview with the BBC yesterday. They kept asking over and over why do UK GPs and neurologists not know/understand augmentation and Impulse Control Disorder. Why do they still prescribe a drug that is KNOWN to worsen the disease and cause ICD?

It really is very hard to grasp that UK doctors refuse to read up and research RLS.

I’m not sure who you spoke to but I did a ? Interview/pre interview at the BBC and they weren’t interested and totally didn’t understand the present situation and how this has all come about . He didn’t really seem to care either…

I've been speaking to two journalists who have picked up on the ICD aspect. Then a third called me.So the word is most definitely getting out there.

Slowly but surely...

Do Many of us get impulse disorder?

Joolsg profile image
Joolsg in reply tofunnyfennel

Absolutely. Studies show rates of between 10% & up to 38%.RLS-UK did a study of 3772 RLS patients in August 2024 and 11% were showing signs of ICD.

Yet UK doctors have recently been telling patients it is rare ( 1 in every 10 is not rare) or that it only affects people with addictive personalities ( not true- many people report they've NEVER gambled before).

Huge media interest right now.

And UK lawyers confirm they've sued hundreds of UK doctors for failing to warn about ICD.

Not in UK. Australia also. My GP is woefully ignorant.

His profile says Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Sleep Medicine. I can't find anything that says he is or ever was a podiatrist. ???

Interesting, Joolsg, to hear there is far more awareness now and interest in RLS. Good.Let us know if you are on the telly.

Thanks for sending podiatrist article.

If I am- it'll be on BBC South. I don't get that news. But that's a good thing! I don't want to see myself on the telly. Aaghh.

Thanks Joolssg, where do you find them 🤣. Very interesting article and just proves knowledge comes from strange directions, but podiatrist's are surprising knowledgeable about many medical issues to do with not just feet. The podiatrist I see regularly is such a person, such a shame she can’t prescribe my RLS medication.

Finally got round to reading it. Probably one of the best overviews of RLS I have read.

Scary that UK doctors know less than podiatrists.
