Clarification on ALP and LDH markers
I was wondering if anyone can fill me in on Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) changes with second time docetaxel treatment. What do these values help indicate and is it normal to have them higher after one dose of chemo? I figure it takes a while for the chemo to have time to

A Different View on Bone Protection
Replied to a question about bone protective medications on another forum today, and thought it might be of interest to some here at FPC. So pasting it here. Full disclosure: I have been taking denosumab (Prolia or Xgeva) for over 5 years and currently have normal bone density. I also take Calcium supplement

Dexa scan and VIT D
Hi all I recently had my Dexa scan, waiting for paper result, but I’ve been told I have slightly lower results for a women of my age (38.) I’ve been told my suppressed TSH may be contributing to this. I’m also waiting for a copy of my Thyroid results. She has suggested reducing my T4, not my T3 and

dosing changed
Just to let you know I have atrial fibrillation directly caused by hyperthyroid about 25 years ago. I had my thyroid removed eventually. About 20 years ago. I appear to be very sensitive to medication changes. So I was taking 100mcg levo 5 days and 125mcg on Monday and Friday. This was reduced

Bone problems?
Had radiotherapy 16 years ago for anal cancer, am taking calcium and vitamin D as concerned about future hip arthritis, bone breakages. Am 66. Anyone else had experience of thinning bone density? Would like to prevent this. Many thanks.

Endo asking for calcium and magnesium blood tests
Hi, my private Endo is considering prescribing t3 and has asked for a whole range of tests before our next appointment. These include calcium and magnesium blood tests. I have read here that the magnesium test is not very accurate but leaving that aside I'm wondering: (a) what the tests might mean

Shellfish Allergies and Plant Based Calcium
Has anyone with seafood/shellfish allergies successfully found a plant-based calcium supplement made from algae that you can safely take? And, if so, could you please share the supplement brand. I'm in the US. Thank you.

High BP, meds don't work
I am 67, female, moderately overweight, 5,8, 165# . Moderate hypertension for many years, well controlled with Losartan. Losartan stopped working, placed on Valsartan, which is basically Losartan with a water pill. Several months ago developed high BP, averaging 180/105 upon awakening, dropping

Elevated parathyroid hormone?
Is there any research, data, or personal experience with having parathyroid levels, but not blood calcium levels, become elevated while taking alendronate? I had been on alendronate very successfully (no side effects and a stabilized DEXA) for about 6 months when my TSH to monitor my decade long hypothyroidism

Still only 1 and 1 only AFIB reading since Oct, 2020
Only one finding of afib since October 2020. I bought a Kardia immediately after and check myself about 25 times a week. 73 years old and all is good. Moving forward to November of 2022, my cardio doc believes I should still take the miserable Eliquis twice daily. Eliquis pretty much makes my life a

P -Afib. Doctornow wanting to prescribe lopemide
I've had P-Afib for a few years now well managed with a calcium blocker SR Verapamil. Due to an unrelated condition another specialist has recommended Lopermide 2mg 3×s per day up to 5xs per day. I'm not keen to take it like this long termly as I see irregular heart beat & palpitations is linked to this

Timing of calcium supplements
I know that it is a no-no to take Adcal, Accrete etc within 2 hours of pred because the resultant 'soup' impedes the pred from being absorbed. But is this the case with gastric-coated pred? I notice that on the PIL it says it should be taken within 1 1/2 hours of a meal. Gets tricky when you have to

Have your say on expanding medication options for CKD
Hi All, If anyone was adversely affected by the FDA's shock decision to reject Tenapanor as a treatment option for hyperphosphatemia, please use the link below to send your comments to the advisory committee that will be reviewing Tenapanor on November 16th. A lot of patients can't take phosphate

parathyroid blood test question
hi Has anyone had a parathyroid blood test? My appointment is 8.25am, so should I follow the usual fasting and Levo 24 hours before routine? Do I stop/ reduce D3/K2? currently on 4000iu drops. I’ve read it makes sense to get calcium and vit D tested at the same time. Anyone know if this is routine
