I would like to know if anyone has had deep brain stimulation of the globus pallidus area instead of the subthalamic and results.
My doctors are recomending globus pallidus dbs for me to treat my parkinson's disease. I am 68 years old, and have tremors but no dyskinesias yet. I am on a lot of medication.

Do people successfully return to work following Bacterial Meningitis?
It is a tough world out there to find work. And I guess for us with residual damage from the meningitis to return to employment is also limited or not possible. I am wondering if many people post Bacterial Meningitis successfully return to work or find alternative employment and successfully manage to

Anyone have experience filing SSDI.
I've been at this for over a decade and DBS and continue to work. Although I am very cautious and am psychologically sound in saying I am not giving up, I find my job becoming too strenuous and am (I can't believe I'm saying it) thinking about filing for Social Security Disability. Any helpful hints

bilateral subthalamotomy: an alternative to DBS
Anyone have any knowledge of this procedure? It's been around since 2000 at least. "In this pilot study, bilateral subthalamotomy was performed on 18 Parkinson's patients at the Centro Internacional de Restauracion Neurologica (CIREN) in Havana, Cuba… Two years after their surgery, as a group,

Bog Off Viral Meningitis, I'm Back to Normal......
One of the common themes in questions about viral meningitis I see is 'when I'm going to be back to normal' or 'I just want to get back to normal'. For some people viral meningitis is a bit of an inconvenience for others, unfortunately like me, its a life changing experience full of compromises

A staggering 68% of parents are unaware that meningitis vaccinations do not protect their children from all forms of meningitis...
Research released earlier this week shows that a staggering 68% of mums and dads are unaware of the limitations of current vaccinations against meningitis. Although great strides have been made to protect children from some types of meningitis, there is currently no vaccine to protect against

Our Annual PD Symposium
Saturday was our Annual PD Symposium. The main topic of the day was surviving a hospital stay. We all know the best way is to stay out of one but there are times when it is unavoidable. All PD people received the Aware in Care Kits. They are black cases which contain an ID bracelet, Hospital Action Plan

DBS Wires
Those with DBS, would you comment on your experiences with the leads--that is, do you feel them? do they interfere with any daily activity? Would you do it again?

Just a quick update
I thought I had done this a couple weeks ago but I can't seem to find my post anywhere... I had the visit to the rheumy and many other visits with other specialists. Seems all is good so far with a few suprises. My ANA was positive at 1:80 and speckeled pattern. I also tested positive for Lyme

Do my symptoms sound like it could be APLS? Just sent bloodwork in. Trying to figure out what has been wrong with me for over 3 years!
My arms turn purple and get tight, cold and weak when I do physical activities or stand. I'm always lightheaded and have trouble with thinking and memory. I have not had a stroke or major hospitalization from a blood clot. Is it possible to have "small" blood clots that cause cumulative damage but

Yes, you’d be nervous too if holes were going to be drilled into your head But I‘ve assured all who have asked , that I am not anxious nor do I feel any dread. The bottom line is simply this – I have done everything that I can possibly do, So Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s
