I would like to know if anyone has had deep brain stimulation of the globus pallidus area instead of the subthalamic and results.

My doctors are recomending globus pallidus dbs for me to treat my parkinson's disease. I am 68 years old, and have tremors but no dyskinesias yet. I am on a lot of medication.

I have had DBS for the GPi placement for severe dystonia. Prior to that I had DBS for Bil STN's/ The surgery for the GPi went well. I had it done in Sept of 2010. it is finally working for me. I have been a tough nut tp crack as far as programmming goes.. But the programmer who works with me saod that tremor is so much easier to work with vs dystonia. I am 52 years old.n est of luck to you and hope all goes well.

Thanks for your reply. I am not totally sure why the doctors recommend the GPi area for me except that I told them that what I feared most was cognitive decline after the surgery. I did not know that both stn and gpi could be done in a person. I wonder if there are many who have had leads put in both areas? I have mostly tremors and stiffness rather than dystonia . I hope all goes well for you also.
