Condom Catheter
After years of short continence, about an hour, following HDR
brachytherapy
, I am using condom catheter with GREAT success. There are a few tricks to using it and I am 100% disabled vet so cost is not issue for equipment, but I can SLEEP more than 5 hours at a clip vice 1-2 hours.

An old computer geek
My treatment consisted of Lupron + a session of MRI guided High Dose Rate (HDR)
brachytherapy
, followed by 25 sessions of external beam 3DCRT radiotherapy, plus one more session of HDR.

What is the best way to radiate the prostate in 2016?
Recent studies including several randomized trials support the use of
brachytherapy
in combination with external beam RT for higher-risk patients. RT for prostate cancer continues to evolve.

Bicalutamide (Casodex) plus Dutasteride (Avodart)
Similar to [3], a 2016 Canadian paper [4] reported that: "Dutasteride and Bicalutamide is a regimen of non-inferior efficacy to LHRH agonist based regimens for prostate volume reduction prior to permanent implant prostate
brachytherapy
."

Foods/Supplements-Vitamins: Iodine
Unfortunately, most are related to Iodine-125-
brachytherapy
. In fact, I haven't found any study that links iodine deficiency to PCa. Yet Dr. Brownstein is adamant that PCa is one of a long list of diseases where deficiency increases risk.

Brief intro.....
I received short term hormone therapy, short term IMRT and prostate
brachytherapy
at the University of California, San Francisco, which is also where I work, in the Cardiology Division. I am now 58 years old and PSA is still undetectable. And hope it remains that way!

My introduction
I had
brachytherapy
in 2004, which failed, my PSA nadir being 2.43. Years of hormone ablation followed (Androcur, Lupron and Stilboesterol, but not Zoladex, which I could not tolerate). My cancer showing resistance in 2010, I had a radical prostatectomy on medical advice.

Mrs. Tom-36
He has had many treatments over the ensuing years, beginning with
brachytherapy
(radioactive “seed” implants) followed by external beam radiation in Cancer Year (CY) 1. In CY 3 he began hormonal therapy (Lupron Depot injections).

My Story
Fast-forward to now...I lost 200 lbs and have my 33'' waist back, was able to treat my cancer with
Brachytherapy
, my PSA is staying below 1, so now I assume I have more than 10 years to live.

Been "through the mill".
Since then, have had BCC (skin cancer), about 6 years ago had prostate cancer and received
Brachytherapy
, had renal cancer 9 months ago and had left kidney, ureter and bladder cuff removed. I am going to be 80 years of age later this year and am still a SURVIVOR. My goal,is to hit 85.
