Cardioversion update and possibly the way forward
After the disappointment following my cardioversion that lasted just 11hrs I have spoken to the doctors arrhythmia team and there is a suggestion that another cardioversion will be offered and the drug
Amiodarone
will be used to help prevent slipping back in AF.

Had my first Cardioversion on Friday but it failed so I have been prescribed
amiodarone
hydrochloride to add to my daily cocktail. Has anyone else has experience of this drug as I am struggling big time with side effects?

Cardio version anyone?
Went to Hull A&E yesterday they gave me 300ml iv
Amiodarone
and my hr went to 90... Still in AF but they let me go. I'm back in Bradford now and my Hr is back to 135 AF. Do you think the time is to go to A&e and have the cardio version if offered...

Amiodarone
The agency makes it quite clear that
amiodarone
side effects are very serious so the drug should only be prescribed when other treatments have failed.

Amiodarone fear
He has written to my GP asking him to prescribe
Amiodarone
prior to my having a Cardiversion as he said the results would be better if I was on this drug. Having Googled it I am incredibly worried about the side effects and of the procedure itself.

My 'not so brief' story into AF and beyond !! (hopefully)
Cardioversion with
Amiodarone
(sorry but not for me). 2, Stay on current medication and do nothing. 3. Change Medication from Bisoprolol to Verapamil Half Securon SR - 1 x 120mg). 4. Have a Catheter ablation. Initially I thought I could survive on medication and changed to Verapamil .

Amiodarone and coughing
Well after seeing the cardiologist again I agreed to commence
Amiodarone
which I started on Monday on the usual front loading dose of 200 mg X 3 times daily. Since Tuesday I have terrible trouble sleeping and now today I have started a terrible cough.

Vats Ablation, my story.
I was on the dreaded
amiodarone
for a few weeks, lowering the dose, still on apixaban for 3 months then that stops. The only medication remaining permanently is 2.5mg of Bisoprolol, this for my hypertension, my BP is 125/78.

Bad News
As an interim (I hope) solution I am being put on
Amiodarone
- just for a laugh. Hopefully this should stop the AF flipping and allow me to get some sleep. Is it worth getting a second opinion on the electrocardiologist???

4 months after ablation and Amiodarone will be washed out in 2 weeks time. All looks good after 72 hour heart monitor two weeks ago.
I had my ablation done privately because I did not want to go into persistent AFib because of waiting another year on the NHS. Had 3 episodes afterwards and then just a couple of fast heart beats a month later. In the last month none. Two weeks ago had a 72 hour heart monitor fitted. Results were that

How long does Amiodarone last and stop episodes of AFib occurring after cessation. Now I feel very apprehensive and could not sleep.
The consultant realised that I was afraid of the side effects of
Amiodarone
and for that reason he said come off them. Otherwise, he would suggest I continue until January. I have had my last
Amiodarone
tablet the night before last.

Trip to GP about Amiodarone
Meantime I will stay on my Sotalol even though my breathlessness is awful.....prefer that to the possible horrendous side effects of
Amiodarone
. Let's hope I get a positive response!!!

"Eye Popping" Atrial Fibrillation
Amiodarone
for rate control is actually considered 2nd line, but are you going to give this to our patient in a hyperthyroid state? Not a good idea. If you were, then review
amiodarone
toxicity here.
