Who is up for learning a new and rapidly emerging practice of ROPE FLOW?

We’ll do a four day challenge, learning four basic moves.

I’ve been discovering this new practice recently and the moment I showed hubby, we both were fascinated. We also dug out old gardening ropes or left over sash window rope to make our own flow ropes, so below is also a video with instructions how to make the handles of the rope.

★★★ Why do Rope Flow? ★★★

It’s a low-impact exercise that is also cost-effective and great for improving joint health and balance. “Rope flow is a method of skipping using rotation and ground pressure through the feet as a guiding principle” (Chase Mountain’s Chase Tucker) with no jumping involved.

For runners and walkers, at all levels, it’s ideal as it moves our bodies through various planes of motion, helping them to stay healthy and injury-free, and it does all this whilst strengthening the joints and muscles. It’s also quite mind calming and connects the brain with body movements.

It sounds like it ticks quite a few boxes, so who’s up for joining me on an exploration for learning the basic 4 moves of Rope Flow?

We start soon!

★★★ What do we need? ★★★

1) A space large enough to swing a rope. It can be outside on the lawn or patio or inside with sufficient head height and space around you to swing a rope. If you can imagine rope-skipping in that space, then it should be large enough (although we will not be doing any skipping)

2) A skipping rope, ideally a bit heavier than the plasticky gimmicky ones. You can make your own rope out of ropes you get from any DIY stores. Our ropes we made from sash window ropes left over from a past renovation.

★★★ What type of ropes can you use? ★★★

Lots of choices, from using a dog leash, a resistance band (the long ones), a climbing rope, sash window rope, marine rope (double braided?) or anything similar, 12-16 mm, semi floppy, ideally a bit heavier than your cheap skipping rope.

★★★ Can I make my own rope? ★★★

How to make it: here is a very short and then more detailed video on how to make your Flow Rope:

This looks brilliant! Thanks for yet more inspiration 😀👍 I remember organising a Jump rope club for the children, a number of years ago now! Tricks included swinging the rope as in the video and then jumping over it. The kids loved it and of course I had to learn the moves in order to teach them 😊👍 I have a long rope that I used with my ponies (Natural horsemanship) but hubby has lots of climbing ropes too (but rather long!). Unfortunately I now have a sore and swollen knuckle joint (thumb) - no idea what I have done, maybe knocked it on something at work 🤔 May have to wait a few days to check it is ok.

Brilliant! Yes, we’ve also just made one set of rope but want to make another set with a bit heavier Material.

I’ll drop the first movement this weekend.

lol you’ll come with prior experience, it sounds like. And climbing ropes seem the perfect weight. But will your hubby notice that a few meters are suddenly missing …. 😅
