Are you fit for your age?

Did anyone else see the great article in the iWeekend paper - Are you fit for your age? Definitely worth looking at…... It describes exercises and then suggests targets for different age groups. Exercises we are all familiar with - push up ( can’t do!), stand on one leg (I am good at that), sit ups, back scratch, plank (I did surprisingly well for my age!), sit to stand and also the ‘elevator’ test - sitting down on the floor and then getting back up.

All very interesting and confirms that some things I just can’t do (yet 🤔) and other exercises I did much better than expected 👍 I am going to keep the article as a reminder of how important stretching and strengthening is to overall fitness.

lol yes, hubby and I saw that and tried a few! Same here: balance I’m now very good (I didn’t used to be), planks not so much.

We did discuss that the way they do sit-ups wasn’t the best way to do them, according to newest advice.

Perhaps they could have mentioned that people with osteoporosis shouldn’t do sit ups as they can increase the risk of spinal compression fractures.

I googled ‘Are you fit for your age’ and the inews link popped up. I was able to read it all that way.
