ROWING: Trying out some new immersive tech - EXR

As I was pretty much unable to run over the last four weeks, due to reoccurring calf strains, my rowing took on centre stage again.

So I did gave myself the luxury of subscribing for six months to an immersive rowing app for my indoor rows.

It’s called EXR and it’s running on the Apple TV I had put into our guest room, where my rower lives. EXR is often called the Zwift of the rowing world, with gorgeous scenery, games that involve rowing from sharks or with ducks, competition races and training plans.

So, I’ve been rowing with several of my lovely ghosts, participated in weekend group rows with my already familiar RowAlong Gang, and recently also joined some group rows with the British Rowing Club.

I’ve added a morning quick row to warm me up for the day, and although I don’t manage it every day, the quick morning 10 min row really helps to get everything going.

Just today I have started jeffing again, after quite a bit of walking and Nordic walking over the last few days. But rowing really kept me fit (and sane) as I spent time on the IC. So all that and my exercises from the physio are keeping me busy.

So happy working out, everyone, wherever that may be: in your living room yoga corner, a guest room rowing room, the garden shed turned into a studio, the garden outdoor gym, or the nearest local fitness centre.

Keep on keeping on! You got this!

Rowing from sharks! That should get you moving! I'm quite envious of you having the space to have a rowing machine, I always enjoyed it when I went to the gym, great for bums and legs, but my tiny house has nowhere to put one.

Happy rowing xx

Yeah, it’s big, isn’t it. But it does fold.

We are fortunate to have sufficient space. We have it in our guest room, and it’s almost the length of the room, making it a bit difficult to use our drawers with bedding. But it made such a huge difference to me, being able to hop onto the rower for that quick row. I wouldn’t have been able to embed it into my daily routines if I had to rely on a gym rower.

But I am also dreaming of that garden-shed/garage gym to make the guest room a guest room again 🤣🤣.

Some people store it always upright in the living room, if you have a big enough living room.

Running is in some ways so much more accessible, as only space for shoes is needed. But then, I am using more drawers and have probably bought more gear and wear for running than I ever will for rowing, so I guess it balances out.

As you say, one just needs that floor space.

My house is like a doll's house! Front door opens straight into the 4 MT x 4 MT living room, the other rooms are the same size or smaller. I have a mat on the floor in the spare room, but I have to move it around to do exercises on left or right. My husband got fed up of my running shoes and put up a shelf with hooks so they hang up!

it's cosy though, and doesn't take two minutes to hoover!
