Good morning everyone.

Welcome to the Changing Room... it is a bit foggy and dank here today, so a the warmth here is welcome...

I have been busy ! Very. hence, a day late... again!!!!

Sneaking the odd run here and there... and loads of walking. Ongoing regular exercise sessions are always there, usually first thing, before the day starts whizzing, all helping to keep it all going!

One of my favourite times is when I wake and do my, still in bed, mini, yoga wake up. 15 minutes of hands, wrists , arms, ankles and legs, all done before getting out there!

So... have I been thinking...of course I have. When time is short because life is so busy, I know I have to sometimes, make a real effort to maintain some aspects of supportive exercise. I also, sometimes, suddenly realise that I am perhaps, neglecting one of the exercises that is so important to all of us, whatever is our chosen activity. The Core !

Okay, there have been posts on this before , but it really is an important point to be made for all of us.

healthunlocked.com/strength...

Whatever we choose to do, cycle, walk, row or run...core strength is an essential part of the fitness routine.

The core, our core is the all important power centre for all our activity actions! The way we move, the speed we move at, the impact those actions make all come from there. So, if neglect our core, what happens?

Quite simply,. It means less power, less stability, weakness and sometimes, resulting injury or pain.

My next question was... when time is short, but maintaining strength is essential. Is there one exercise, which suits all of us. That we could or should, all of us be putting in there sometimes... and of course... the answer was perfect !

So... if you are not into entomology … well, maybe now is the time, because apparently. One of the very, very best exercises for our core strength is...the Dead Bug! !!!! ( or a bug pretending to be dead, maybe) !

Yup... we can, apparently again, all do it and it is easy!

How do we do it... well, this was one of the simplest explanations , for me that I found!

* First... lay out a thick towel or blanket or Yoga mat if you have one..

( You may want to find a video link of your own choice to show this).

* Lie down. Assume table top position. Knees above hips and ankles at 9o degree angle.

* Arms reach straight over head in line with the shoulders.

* Keep your back firmly on the floor and tighten your core.

***

* Reach LEFT arm backwards over your head towards the wall behind you.

* Extend the RIGHT leg forward, still keeping it off the floor

* Then bring arm and leg, slowly back to the original position .

* Repeat on the opposite side !

Simple...? Maybe not at first, but with practice !

This exercise, benefits a whole load of muscles... all with big names! Especially it seems. The deeper core muscles... including the transverse abdominis, erector spinae, obliques, rectus abdominis, and the pelvic floor ...WOW!!!

It may too, reduce lower back pain, increase stability and...help prevent injuries.

This all sounds good to me and I am, as we speak, after my T'ai Chi morning workout, going to give it a try!

How about you...do you already do this? Are you up for trying it? What core exercises if any are you already doing... I do a little workout with Body fit with Amy, but I feel this could be an addition to that .

Do, please, share your thoughts, ideas, and any core strength tips you may have with us.

Looking forward to see who buzzes on in... ( see what I did there)?

PS

CAN you spot the bug in the photograph ???

PPS

Photographs of you trying this will be most welcome:)

NB:

As always... if you do have any existing issues with back or neck, maybe may sure that this is an exercise that is suitable for you. As always, again, of there is any pain, not just the discomfort sometimes felt with a new exercise, then do stop!

We were doing deadbugs this morning in yoga. They’re really effective-i can absolutely feel the effects of this evening. When I was seeing my physio recovering from my run injury, they were part of the programme he gave me. I’ve kept them up! Thanks for sharing!

I remember doing deadbugs when doing Zombies, Run, (see a Zombies, Run instruction), but haven’t done them for quite a while.

Having said that, some of the Pilates March Matness moves do work on the same muscle groups.

Might have to give the deadbugs another go!

(And I see it!! I see the camouflaged bug!!!)
