Resistance Band Advent Calendar Challenge

Day 2/24

Uff, right in there with a blue cardio card! It says for all levels, but I’m not sure 🤔!

And this might be one where adaptation is needed for those with therabands….

And maybe for those who want a low impact version, a slow running motion one leg at a time might be just the thing?

So, for day 2 let’s see how it goes….

DURATION: 30 seconds (thought I’d add that here, before we all end up doing 30 min! 🥵🥵🥵🤣)

I know, right? Should I have skipped this card? I did ponder about that when seeing this card.

I’m not going to lie-this looks tricky!

We’ll have to flex our adaptive muscles! That is, our capability to adapt what is put in front of us.

I also don’t have a handy tree in my guest bedroom/ workout room.

😳😳🤔🫣🤯

We’ll have to get creative with this card!

I was just thinking that, CBDB: "I don't have a tree, so I am out" 🤣

Seriously, though, I've done a similar exercise without the band oodles of times with the 7-minute workout...

(This thing: well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013... Though it's been debunked... see slate.com/technology/2022/0... )

huh 🤔 interesting. Hubby does the 7-min app thing daily, but he has steadily progressed to longer and harder things.

That was a bit tough CBDB I adapted it so I was using a power walking motion, so I looked like someone in a US Marching Band🇺🇸 I’m not sure mum quite understood what I was doing!🤣

You did it!!!! Well done! Marching Band analogy is a great one to aim for! (I used to be in one in my teenage years!) 👏👏👏

More adaptation here. Neither of my band options would really work. I settled on 50 (25 per leg😄) high knee lifts while watching my porridge cook 😋

Sounds a brilliant alternative! 👏👏

Phew. I thought we had to do that for 30 mins before I read the card😂 My 'tree' was a wardrobe leg, then had to tie the bands around my ankles but they pinged off a few times, then I lost count - gave it a go anyway 🙂

🤣🤣 I added a note to the text. 30 minutes of this ? 🥵🥵🥵🥵😳

I just ran in place with high knees and swinging arms for 30 seconds - followed by about 15 seconds of wandering around my place to get back to conversational pace 😉

sounds great. I’m just about to start on those . .. not sure how I will adapt them, but definitely turning them into low impact.

I did high knees for 45 seconds as couldnt engage the bands so thought an additional 15 seconds would cover it😀 And I've already run over 5km this morning so all bases covered I think.

definitely all basis covered! 👍🏽😀💪

I did my usual Friday hiit class and there were three thirty second blasts of high knees. I’m going with that means today gets a tick!

The instructor was on one this morning with about four billion squats and lunges (disclaimer-that might be an exaggeration). Going to see what YWA can provide to stretch me out!

😳😳😳😱😱😱 (… just thinking of 4 Billion Squats…)🤢🤣

I’d take the squats over lunges. I hate lunges with a passion! My balance has improved a lot with yoga/Pilates but I’m still paranoid about falling over mid lunge and busting my knee. I know things I dislike are generally the things that are best for me but I still can’t get on with stupid lunges!!!

Ok, how weird did that feel!?

For for first time I used my ankle bands. Wrapped around thee ankle, they clip onto the ends of my band. And I had to unwrap the door stopper that I’ve never used before.

I hooked the door stopper under a door (duh!) but as our old doors don’t close properly, I could only use them outwards, so doing the exercise right in front of my teenage son’s bedroom door.

He didn’t seemed to have noticed although I thought he’d be any moment looking at what the strange commotion was just outside his door. His mom moonwalking with elastic bands pulling her back like a painting of a walker in heavy winds.

And it really felt weird walking or attempting to jog with the elastic pulling you back!

Well, I put the band round both knees then did my high knees didn't fall over, so all good 😬

Well that was a real walk this way! My balance is pants and I kept tripping when I tried to job, so I just stepped out instead 😁

I've got a rotten cold and had a coughing fit afterwards, so I will be mindful of that in future cardio sessions. GP gave me antibiotics for sinusitis today - I wouldn't wish this virus on anyone 😒

oh no. Just take it easy and slow. Grab yourself a nice book, or this forum and keep warm. Lemon tea with honey and cayenne pepper works often for me. (I know, sounds horrible, right!?) Certainly make sure you get enough VitC. Sending you loads of get well wishes!
