How do I stop hurting my hip?

I have had hip pain many times, over lockdown 1 I got up to running 5k without pain. I started running a little more and the pain returned. I have rested, carried out core and leg workouts at home and tried walk a minute run a minute. The pain returns every time I run. Any tips?

Sorry to see this! Have you spoken to a doctor or physiotherapist? Should really be your first port of call - there are many problems that can cause hip pain.

Oh what a shame. It sounds like the pain is really keeping you from being able to enjoy your runs more. ☹️

As Roseabi suggested, it probably needs a professional (GP or physio) to have a good look at it. My husband got referred to a physio by his GP and has now very specific exercises to do that seem to be helping. (But it’s the shoulder and calf muscles rather than hip)

Really hope you find out what it is, and so well done for trying to sort it. There are some workouts on here that are using only arms or upper body, that might be able to tide you over until you have seen a doctor or physio, but do be gentle to your hips:

I had a similar problem. Ran 5k x3 per week for ages with no problem then got all ambitious through lockdown and increased to 10k (probably too soon) and had upper thigh pain. I tried all sorts of stretches and strengthening videos on You Tube. Eventually went to see a physio who said I was overstretching (who knew that was a thing) and gave me the right exercises to do. Physios are the experts and will soon tell you what the problem is and how to fix it. Not cheap, but worth every penny if you want to keep running.
