All we 'Knee-d' is... RE-POST...

*****Lots of posts about sore knees at the moment, so I am re posting this in pinned posts...

Not sure if some folk are on treadmills or running, as I am in less open spaces, or even running in circles inside, but here are some links here which may help ****

Flossx

I am so sorry the post is late...I really do 'kneed' to sort it!

Okay enough!

I have been whizzing around like a small whirlwind this week and achieving little... I have a twinging, toe/foot, and am exercising that area a lot..

How are your exercises coming along... I am enjoying my foot and ankle ones particularly at the moment and hoping the foot improves. I am running, but only because there is no real pain. We never run through pain, or mask it by the use of painkillers.

I am also doing a lot of hefty working out in my garden...( emptied and moved a garden shed yesterday) ... so I feel my stretching, lifting, digging, fetching and carrying, is all contributing to my strength and stamina.

Anyway folks... here I am again and this week the exercises focus on our knees...and boy, do we have issues with these!

I , as many of us, have suffered with problem knees... I had a new pair of trainers once... my Tigger Trainers... which caused a real issue...over bouncing!!!! They were relegated very quicky for indoor cross trainer work... but seriously, our knees take so much hammer as we run... we do need to take care of them!

Firstly.. some great info re-our knees...and one or two myths busted...

runnersworld.com/health-inj...

But.. do remember, if you have diagnosed medical issues with your knees, ( e.g. Arthritis) , to get expert advice if you do have knee pain...:)

Now...some links to some useful exercises.

womensrunning.com/2015/04/h...

and these...

youtu.be/5nJi7HhJJnE

...and the ones which a great many of us use regularly, me included. Easy to do and effective most of the time !

nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k...

Now, I am not suggesting you do all of these; search around and find the ones you feel would be most useful to you, and that you are comfortable doing, also. Incorporate them into your regular exercise routine, which if you have not already got, I am hoping you are forming.

Exercise to support your running is essential, but does not have to be overly time consuming or expensive. Just try to get into the habit of making it part of your running programme. It can be tricky with all that life throws at us, but will pay dividends.

Let me know what you think ?

Floss x

PS

The photo is me! My knees...running on the beach, not long after the all clear from my consultant, after a long spell on the IC waiting for MRI results on, said knees...

Great advice from you Floss, if I didn't know your age I would say the lady in the photograph is around 30 years old.

Great Post floss, and a belated happy birthday to you!🎂🎉

Knee's! It now seems to be a reoccurring injury for Slinky and don't know just yet if she will return to running at all.

All was well redoing c25k up to w6, and she last run on Friday and completed r2. On Sunday evening pain started in her left knee, then Monday it had swollen up, so she's now on the injury couch, she was enjoying it as well getting back out there, so only time will tell if she gets back to the plan.. I tend to think her osteo is playing up again.. 😔

Thank you Dave x I had a lovely day and am having a birthday week!

Oh, what a pity about Slinkys knee...it was great that you were back on it...!

I think there are few links on the S&F forum about exercise to do whilst on the IC....

Are you both well though?

Yes, we are staying well, sticking to the rules, social distancing as best we can when out for a run, like all of us, will be glad when we come out of lockdown.. 🙂

Timely. Certainly getting new discomforts thanks to hard surfaces (honestly I don't know how you all do it on a regular basis, normally the hardest surface I run on is Curbar Edge ahem) and trampoline.

Love Curbar...used to climb there a long time ago...

Hope the links may be useful!

It's our go-to place, we could pop up there in the evening (no we did not feature in the infamous drone video)

Sadly we have had some absolutely dreadful family news this lunchtime (unclear at this point whether virus related or not, may not) but will not be able to go to Curbar to soothe our souls as we usually would.

I am so sorry about that... my son in laws father died from a massive stoke just over a week ago! x

Our go to place, was a little pull in by a stream beneath Stanage Edge.. in the week only...never seen anyone else there.. walking and a quick rock scramble... I hope it sorts soon. x

My husband's nephew, in front of his wife and small daughters. Not yet 40.

Used to love the daily photos and reports from Bill Gordon the Stanage ranger before he retired and moved away.

Looking good Oldfloss. There’s some great information here. I would like to add that I had problems with my knees prior to running , which let me to have an MRI scan. It showed signs of early arthritis and a spur on my cartilage. I was referred for physiotherapy and the exercises helped a lot. Since running I have had no problems with my knees except for when increasing distance to 10 miles (IT Band niggles for which more exercises were given) and currently a strained ligament following a skiing mishap. Some of my new exercises for that are feature in your links and are to stretch hamstrings, and build up glutes and quads. My weakness is that once I don’t have the niggles ,I stop doing the exercises.......big mistake.

Have fun everyone.

OldflossAdministrator in reply to Dexy5

Keep on with those exercises... then the niggles will niggle off! Glad all seems to be progressing!

Just had an email from the physio and he thinks my walking up to 3km is good progress and says I can ride a bike. Yippee 😁

Thank you Oldfloss! A few reminders for me on this post! I have arthritis in both knees and had to walk witj a walking stick a few years ago because of my right knee. After a lot of yoga and learning to move better, they were ok when I started running.

But oh goodness I have to work hard to look after them! Lots of exercises! I want to keep running until I am very old, so looking after knees is a priority!
