In January 2019 I started move everyday and have done at least a mile or more most days. On “down days” I have done 20 min of stretches but never more than one of those a week.
This week I have missed two days. My Dad had a foot infection and I had to drop everything and come up North to look after him. He is on the mend and doing really well but I have dropped my challenge just because I just couldn’t get out of the house while caring for him.
I am a big believer in family first so I don’t mind but can’t help realising how close I got 😀. I logged nearly all my walks, swims and runs with an annual mileage today so far of 1,442 km.

Oh Rfc, this is not a defeat in my book. Your dad needed you, and once again you are there by his side supporting him.
Your achievement this year is phenomenal, and something to be proud of. I wish I had as much resolve as you, and had been able to keep up doing stretch/strength work regularly.
So close to the end of the year and simply because you couldn't, I think you can still claim this as a win.😊xxx
Thank you so much for your lovely words. I have just phoned MrRfc and said to him because I started doing it for MIND the mental health charity how stupid would it be to feel bad about it, so I really am ok with it, you are right it is a win 😀.
How rigid is the definition of 'move every day'? Are you sure you did nothing that would qualify? It seems momentously cruel to get this far through the challenge and then feel you've been defeated. That can't be the purpose of the 'rules'.
I feel sure you should be able to find something that allows you to tick those days. Seems to me like you moved heaven and earth (at the very least) to be able to help your Dad.
And if you really can't find anything you can justify to yourself, then please concentrate on the 363 days of movement - that's a massive achievement and I raise my hat to you RFC 😍
Thank you. The rules were relaxed and only for January 2019. It was to help people with theJanuary blues and I loved it so much I carried on for the rest of the year and made my own rules up for motivation. Hehe, I’m.very strict with myself, it helps with keeping going but I’m also honest, I never understood cheating myself. I’m taking it as a win, I am proud of what I have done and by admitting I didn’t make it it has allowed me to settle down and look after Dad without fretting about it, which is good for both of us. Rfc x
It's still an amazing achievement, and I'm not sure you should give up!
I do often wonder about these challenges to do something every day. Very commendable, but I think they can add unnecessary stress sometimes! Taking a couple of days off for a good reason (or even for no reason at all!) is sometimes just what you need, and maybe should just be considered part of the challenge?
But then again, if you want to stop doing it then that's awesome too!!!
Thanks, I’m back home tomorrow and I know by Wednesday I will be back into the swing of it again. Just a 20 min walk a day adds so much to my mental health, I’m looking forward to getting back to it but you are right it would of been wrong to keep going when it wasn't right for me, Rfc x
Supporting your Dad and all those who need you... strong in the face of adversity ( and you have had some, adversity)....and you have done brilliantly.
You have achieved so much and you have inspired so many of us...you are indeed a winner
I think I will do that and keep going but a little more relaxed in 2020 I think, but certain elements I think I will keep for a long while yet, just a small walk really helps to lift your spirits some days 😀.
Yes that’s true. I remember a week when I felt really low for various reasons. In the end i made myself walk 400m to the shop and back and felt much better for it. I must try and remember this in the new year and try and do like you when possible. I think it’s an impressive challenge and you’ve prooved to yourself you can so it but i think it’s fine to relax it a bit next year when it becomes difficult to do so.
I’ll be trying the 30 day yoga in January, interested to see how that goes x
definitely not a defeat to have managed the whole year to date, which is a fantastic achievement Do some stretching on the down days or walk on the spot in his lounge or kitchen while you make him a nice cuppa and then just get straight back to your routines as soon as possible Glad to hear your dad is on the mend, wishing him and you all the best
Stay blessed be blessed and be a blessing to others. Your posts are inspirational and was curious if you know what the strength protocol called, "greasing the groove" is (u can search it up) it's so simple and effective and isn't intense at all as your supposed to only use 80-50% of your strength when "greasing the groove." I'm lazy and use it to gain a lot of strength on whatever exercises I want to improve upon.
