I had my Swmming event today.

Today was my swimming event.

It was a bit strange for me as I am more used to running events which often start at 9am, so it is a case of up, breakfast and out the front door. My event today didn’t start until 1pm, so I had a lot more time to think about it all.

I got to the pool 1 hour and 15 mins early. I hate being late😂.

I was told I was in lane one and I picked my swimming cap, I picked a lovely bright fluorescent pink one.

We were standing by the pool waiting to get going, then it was time to get in the pool and start. Two strokes into the swim, I could of turned the water in the pool blue with the words that were being uttered out of my mouth. I had forgotten to put my goggles on, they were still in my bag by the pool. 🤪

I swam the first half goggle free, my shoulders were starting to hurt from sticking my neck out the water, I had tried swimming with my head underwater but it had made my eyes sore. I looked up and saw that a girl who was doing the same distance as me was sat on the steps having a drink so I asked the official if I could jump out and get my goggles, luckily she said I could.

The second half of my swim was so much nicer, I relaxed a bit and settled down into it.

So it was 50 lengths of a 50 mtr (Olympic pool ) or 100 lengths of a standard pool for the 2.5km.

I have been so hungry this afternoon and for a treat I am going to devour an almond magnum later. MrRfc is cooking tonight so I’m looking forward to that as well, I do love a proper reason for loads of good food. 😀.

Have a great weekend everyone

Rfc x

Congratulations on your swim today, as a non swimmer, the reason for that being I nearly drowned way back when I was 10 and that put me off swimming for life.

50 lengths of a 50 metre pool is a long time in the water but you did mention that they do allow swimmers to have a break, I suppose swimming also helps people to run, especially the longer distances.

Thank you. I am sorry you had a bad experience. I have always swum, I grew up swimming and when I decided to do a triathlon it was the only sport of the three I could do 😂. I do find swimming helps to strengthen my muscles.

That's nice, it didn't completely put me off swimming because when I was 15 my uncle took me to swimming lessons and I think with him I swam a little but never really liked it and kept doing what I really liked at that time which was cycling. 😊

Well done and congrats on your time. I'm here 1hr 20mins early for my race. I like to get into the zone lol. Yeah swimming with no Googles is hateful. You won't do that again. Come September ill picking your brain for tips as I start my swimming training... Well done again

Well done Rfc - that’s a long way to swim. I hope you enjoyed your Magnum. I like swimming but can only really do breast stroke with my head sticking out. I’d love to learn to do an elegant front crawl. And to dive in!

Thank you, my magnum was great 😀. To be honest I don’t really like crawl, I did the whole thing breast stroke, the first half with my head out the water as I forgot my goggles. I find breaststroke relaxing, I do train with front crawl sometimes and I try to do alternate when I am feeling full of beans.

Amazing Realfoodieclub , swimming always makes me crave chips in gravy with loads of vinegar! I find swimming down the pool like running downhill, then swimming back up, like running uphill and I never get anywhere with each stroke?! Other folk seem to pass me all the time, unless theyre two women chatting! I hope Mr RFC’ s cooking satisfied your cravings?! X

Thank you. Swimming is the same as running, pace or speed really isn’t important a 15 min swim is still a 15 min swim 😀.Oh, my meal was lovely last night, totally refuelled and some 😀.

Hey. Any tips how to build your swimming. I'm starting on Wednesday as I can't run. Did you work off a certain plan or anything

I tend to build up my distances slowly. I try and do some drills, the best thing I ever did was have a swimming session with a Speedo coach. I tend to swim breast stroke now but here is a video on the crawl from Speedo, I found it made such a different to my swimming learning proper technique.
