One thing this week

As I am reading through the replies to the personal markers I see that we are all having a similar issue to the things we don’t deep down want to do even though we know it is good for us. For me it is bit of stretch work. If I can avoid it I will. I know it is one of the best things for me and I can do it I a little bit of time compared to some of my other training it is a doddle to fit in at home, but saying that do I do it every week, No I don’t most times I would rather go out for. A 2km walk instead. For the last three weeks leading up to my HM I did it 2-3 times every week because my physio was keeping an eye on me and now I’m back to trying my best to avoid it

So I thought we could try a different motivation for June. Add in one thing for the week you know you should do but don’t like. Let’s all try and push our comfort zones a bit. It is a weekly challenge so you can change what you want to do each week. We will put a post up each week and all you have to do is tell us what it is your attempting this week and keep us informed on how you got on with it.

Good luck

Rfc x

So for me the thing I need to add in but avoid like the plague is.......

Squats.

I did them religiously on non running days when my physio was keeping an eye on me, I think I have only done them once since my HM. So this week I intend to do at least one session of squats.

There it is all out in the open now, my little virtual accountability buddies. 😀.

Have a great week

You’re so brave ! Squats - yuk !

They are sooooo good for you though, but yes I agree not my favourite☹️.

If they weren’t good for you, no one except masochists would do them 😄

Squats, I agree with ButtercupKid, however, I have done a few of them, I do think that they help people with their running, I was out that walk I mentioned to you yesterday and guess what ¡? when I was passing my local leisure centre, there were a group of people doing squats outside it. 😊

They are my least favourite but my physio always adds them back in, so they must have a real benefit 😀. Rfc x

Has to be s&f. Trying to do at least twice a week. Gremlins definitely sit on my shoulder whenever I think about doing it. So new month new determination. You can do it😝

Great one, do do it with the walks? I ended up breaking it up, a fast walk and then I did all the exercises together 😀. It is a great balance of strength and stretch. Rfc x

It's cheating a bit but I feel I went way out of my comfort zone this morning by running at 8am. Normally I run at about 6pm. I am not a morning person and I hadn't even had breakfast!

But just in case my VRBs won't count that I will aim to do my physio exercises every day this week. An extra sticker on my calendar 🤣

Good luck everyone x

Well done on that early morning run. I’m not a early morning runner either. I really wish they would organise events after 11 am 😂. Good luck with your physio exercises, I look forward to seeing all those dinosaurs and unicorns 😀.

So true. I hate planks but I’ve told myself they won’t help with running, or will they? I’m off to a yoga class now as telling myself that is just as good. Will probably end up doing planks in it as a punishment

Realfoodieclub profile image
Realfoodieclub in reply toCouchpotato2

Sorry to tell you, a lot of power comes from core muscles and guess what exercise works your core! 😀. Saying that a good Yoga session will give you even more than a set of planks will as you activate your core for each movement. Win win there I would say. Rfc x

I’ll be extra vigilant today, anything to avoid planks. I do sweat as much in yoga as I do running but maybe that doesnt count

Teacher gave people the option of planks for thise that wanted so I did. That’s ne done for a week :-)

This is not the month for me to push at comfort zones (I am not sure I am blessed with those anyway) But I would definitely endorse the value of squats - I've seen this year the difference they can make to fulfilling dying wishes and not. Yes, they are that worthwhile.

It is the month to look after yourself. From what I have gained reading your posts over the last few years you put everyone before yourself so maybe just looking after you is out of your comfort zone. Take very good care of yourself. Rfc x

Oh bless, that's so sweet of you to say. I am quite disciplined about taking care of myself (hence all the micro-goals! I have things like taking a bath every month and reading one volume of poetry a month... also supports delusions of control!)

I am going to try and get back into yoga sessions. I found some really good ones on YouTube to follow, but have stopped doing them......will try for 2 sessions a week....

The nhs have a couple of yoga or Pilates ones as well and if you want to have a look.

They are great for stretching those muscles.

Oo- not found those before. Will give them a look - thanks!

I now have a paid subscription to Ekhart Yoga but it was their YouTube videos that led me to them. Show up in person classes are not for me and I have developed a regular personal practice but sometimes it is really good to just be talked through by someone.

Yes, that's what I like about the YouTube channels I have found - and that I can do them in the privacy of my lounge, so if there is one I can't do or don't like, I can substitute something else!

Ok....😆 Just looked at my chart...just ticks no unicorns or dinasaurs.

Started last Monday, there are two run ticks, one walk tick, four knee strenghening ticks and nothing in the pilates or keepfit columns!

Going to do something about that right now! 😊x

Realfoodieclub profile image
Realfoodieclub in reply toBluebirdrunner

Sounds like a plan to me. I’m doing a big stretch session myself today. I think I’m going to try the Nike runner flexibility one for a change 😀. Good luck and enjoy 😀. Rfc x

I really need to make another chart, good incentive seeing the ticks (or dinosaurs!). You have done more than me this week, well done :)

Bluebirdrunner profile image

Something ticked everyday after all...I need to think of a reward (not food related) for, say, 5 ticks in one/all categories...😊x

Okay, squats it will be. I’ll aim to do more than two before giving up! Small steps ‘n’ all that!

Realfoodieclub profile image
Realfoodieclub in reply toDowat

Small steps are brilliant, when I did my first plank I couldn’t do more than 5 seconds without falling flat on my face, I’m at 30 seconds now and I can see a six pack under my ab duvet 😀. Good luck with your squats. Rfc x

Great idea Rfc! So.…..busy week next week but I will try and get back to doing planks, 2 or 3 daily (only holding for 15 secs).

Best of luck everyone! :)

Great one. 15 seconds makes a difference. For over a year I did 15 seconds and I could see the difference it made. Good luck. Rfc x

Absolutely fab idea RfC!

This, to all here who know me, may be unexpected. My just one thing this week will be to take a day off... I will go and walk so I’m active, but nothing on that day will be tough in any way whatsoever. I think I need that day to freshen me up for the other 6, and I’ll start tomorrow... anybody who sees an alert that I’ve started a run, or that I’ve hit 20k steps has my permission to come and beat me!

Realfoodieclub profile image
Realfoodieclub in reply toUnfitNoMore

Hehe, great idea. I had one of those today after I woke up with a slight sore throat, just stretches today. What has this move every day done to us 😂😂😂. Rfc x

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMore in reply toRealfoodieclub

It pushed us for sure... and I believe it has improved us... but it has taken me 6 months to fully realise that we signed up to be active every day, not beat yesterday every day. Looking forward to a couple of half hour strolls and my feet up for the rest of the day. I think we earn that day just as much as a pizza day, some chocolate or whatever our thing is.

Realfoodieclub profile image
Realfoodieclub in reply toUnfitNoMore

I agree, I had to look at them When The heavy training part of my HM kicked in, rest is just as important as distance. I have a lovely little 2km Walk which is my down day it takes me 20-22 mins and it is restful. If I feel really under pressure I do a 20 min stretch session. I sort of can’t imagine not doing anything now 😀.

UnfitNoMore in reply toRealfoodieclub

My running shoes call my name every time I stand up! This is not easy 🤣. Half way through the day though, and a little walk soon will help me I think.
