I heard something about this on No Such Thing as a Fish and found this article on the subject today.

fitness.mercola.com/sites/f...

I’m loving my workouts and the temptation to increase them rapidly is always having to be battled by the mind... too much too soon and too big an increase can both mean injury. Hearing and reading about this though, I’m thinking that I may add a meditation workout in... I use headspace already, so maybe I can get a physical fitness benefit from it to? I’m also thinking that when I do have an injury, this could help me keep the muscles strong while I heal.

Has anybody heard of this, or better still tried it?

Sounds really interesting thank you for posting, it reminds me a little of one of the ones from the trust me I’m a doctor series that is on the BBC about tai chi.

Seems China has had this knowledge for a while then! Never tried tai chi... don’t even know if there’s a local group out there, maybe that’s because I never run mornings! Gonna have a look. I’m surprised that it raises the heart rate... I had it down a more a meditation exercise.

I used to do Tai Chi so I am not surprised that the heartbeat is raised. The controlled arm movements alone, which are often above head height , require effort. Also balancing on one leg and stepping slowly requires physical effort. I think I would prefer Tai Chi to Zumba!

Hello Unfitnomore, Tai Chi is almost everywhere now. There are training if you search on the internet. Often in London area they have like a Saturday training or weekend "camp". A small donation sometimes is required. I am fortunate 8 years ago i moved into this area and in our local park there is a free training almost daily. I love it.

I’ve read something similar elsewhere, and it makes a certain sense to me as I remember being a teenager, mentally going through the actions for hurdling - I was crap at it - every night before I went to sleep, and improving.

As I loved 3k they tried to make me hurdle with a view to steeplechase... think I cleared a laps worth in weeks of trying! I’ve cleared a couple of dogs in recent months though, none of which were exactly Great Danes 😂

Fascinating article, thanks for posting. Lots of interesting ideas to think about. I am lying in bed unable to sleep - perhaps I should imagine myself doing some press ups! Tai Chi is great I used to go to classes many years ago and loved it. I have been thinking of joining a local group.

I think as it’s slow and graceful, and that’s alien to me, I didn’t think about it in the right way. I’m certainly up for a session to try it, but only indoor courses near me... I’ll find a group at some point! I considered just thinking about doing it... but as I don’t know the movements that won’t work 😂

Ha, ha! How about watching a few You Tube clips then you can relax on the sofa while watching! Not sure if that would work though 😕.
