Hi guys, I hope you’re all well and that the challenges have helped you improve strength, flexibility, fitness and health a little. We are either closing it out or getting as near as we can to that with 5 days to go. There’s no pressure to complete, not all goals are achieved first time out and it’s best to work towards them gradually rather than hurt ourselves pushing too much.
My goals for the month were a 10k run before the end of the month (achieved last Tuesday and happening again in an hour or two) and getting an hour of activity in a day, which so far I have. I also realised that a goal I aborted a month or two ago is now on again, I’m 12 miles or so short of a 100k running month, and half of them are going down today, so that will keep me focused over the last few days.
Have a great week, and now would be a great time to think about how we’d like June to go.

2,700, I repeat 2,700, this is the 27th of May, that number is the number of push ups I have done in May, our birthday month, I have found your "100 pushups a day for a month challenge" OK, my arms don't feel too sore, I have also reran C25K runs and am running some of the Stepping stones podcasts with Laura as well, have a nice easy 10K today, I have just been out for a walk but couldn't resist not going for a short run as well, perhaps I do have a touch of the running 🐛 bug. 😊 🏃
Yes I do think there is a slight change in my upper body, especially the upper arms, I am of average weight, I notice looking at a mirror my body is a little 'ripped' a slight six pack, lol. My BMI is around 23. 9 which is not too bad. 😊 I am watching the London Vitality 10,000 (10k) the winner was Mo Farah in around 28 minutes.
Of course you could UNM, you could perhaps take part next year, I am now looking at the runners who are competing that London 10K run in around the 70 to 80 minutes time, I am sure you you could run faster than them with all the training you do.
PS. I have been just looking in detail at some of the results of the London vitality 10k event. Apart from Mo, the quickest time among club runners was just over 16 minutes for the 5K split and around 33 minutes for the 10K.
The slowest was 62 minutes for the 5K split, but this runner did manage to complete the course in just under 2 hours.
Seems about right... one of my local parkruns has a sub 15 course record... so that would probably equate to around the times from today if running twice as far
That other one was saving themselves for the finish!
Hi Johnny, yes I am continuing with UNM "100 push ups a day for a month challenge" I can do it over 18 minutes, for example if I begin at exactly 9am, I do 10 reps, on average that takes around 20 to 25 seconds, I then have 95 seconds to do a few arm swings standing up until I get back down to the yoga mat at 2 minutes past 9 and do another 10, I get to 18 minutes past 9 which are the final 10 reps. My arms arn't too sore but do get sore if the breaks are only 35 seconds, namely doing them every minute, no, it's every 2 minutes which I can manage. 😊 If I went to a gym I just wonder what a PT would think of my technique, I have copied the way they do pushups on a YouTube video, get your chest down to 4"/10cm from the yoga mat using of all things toilet tissue. Before I do the workout I note what time it is write down the time, for example this morning it was between 6.30 and 6.48, put down the number 10 below the time, that's ten tens and as I complete them put a tick at that time, I have a Radio Controlled clock with a hour, minute and seconds hand so I know exactly when to finish.
I suppose I could continue to 150 a day, I have just worked out that would take me to 28 minutes, for good measure another 10 at a 160 would be exactly 30 minutes, my arm might start to get sore.
Thanks. It’s really helping me to have a plan for each month. I have a few days to think of what I can improve on next month... but as I’m going to be starting HM training towards the middle of June I think some leg strengthening work is in order.
That’s great. I really find a plan useful and can’t wait to get back on one... I’m consolidating 10k before starting HM training, so a little lost on that side of things at the moment, but my other workouts have set dates and times... I’m lost without a schedule for sure.
Achieved my goal of 16 days of yoga practice this morning... typing this waiting for the nausea to settle after a core focussed class (Sweet, gentle, therapeutic it said!)
The longest stretch of days with no practice was 4 days so that's another goal fulfilled.
And I did work on my core in my choice of classes and my personal practice.
