Active Every Day: Ides of March

Messed my timing up, as Julius Caesar would have been better off running on this day! Luckily nobody is trying to stab me in the back 😂

So, this is my half time report and so far so good. RED January started us off and RED February and March followed. Yesterday I had a great run, but today for the first time this year my get up and go seems to have gone before I woke up! Really don’t feel like doing anything, so am going to drag myself out for a 10 minute brisk walk at 9, another at 12 and one early evening. My mojo is out there somewhere so three different routes and I’ll find it!

So far this month Active 10 has been achieved at least 3 times a day, and I’m feeling great for it. Strength work is also having an effect, I actually appear to have signs of muscle development in arms and upper body. Flexibility is also improving, I’m working on that weekly as part of my running plan as well as my post run stretches. What I am noticing this month is my mental health is great... while I don’t have a diagnosed condition, I do suffer the blues a lot. This was banished on my running days but it’s starting to reduce on my non-running days too.

All ways up I really wish I’d done this last year, or maybe 30 years ago. I wouldn’t have been able to do what I’m doing now this time last year, but I could have done a little of something at first and built it up slowly. There were, and are, still things I cannot do (sit-ups!) but I will get there if I keep developing my abilities.

If you’re stating out, keep it comfortable for a while... allow the fitness, flexibility and strength to grow. Your abilities will improve month on month, and you’ll soon be a better version of yourself.

I’m also aware that relentless increasing isn’t good in my running, and periods of consolidation are beneficial. Realfoodieclub pointed out to me the other day that the same applies to other exercise. So I’m now looking at not increasing my workload one week in 6 in my other exercise.

I’ve learned a lot during my time on Health Unlocked... thanks for everything guys.

Over the RED months I have had days like that, I tend to do a good stretch session.

I think one of the reasons MIND do RED January is to highlight the advantages mentally of moving every day. I must admit it really suits me, I did have to laugh at myself yesterday as I came home looking like a drowned rat, just because I wanted to fit a 2km Walk in, hehe there is something childish about exercising in the rain. 😂😂😂

Well done on everything you have achieved, to be doing all you are doing when this time last year you hadn’t got off the couch is amazing.

Think I found my mojo on first walk... suddenly realised I’d never done the 3 10s separately, so it’s something new.

I’m looking at the MIND virtual runs for May... just not sure which mileage to try yet.

That sounds fun, I am not sure if I can do that one as my focus will have to be for my HM on the 19th, but it is very common to get the running blues after a HM, it is a bit like coming back of holiday, so it might help to keep me going. 😀🏃‍♀️.

Could be a little tricky, but they start at 25 miles and your HM would only leave 12 to go.

Congratulations UnfitNoMore on becoming an administrator, I notice it's not with C25K but with Strenth and Flex, perhaps you could be an administrator with C25K as well.

Thanks, I’m not leaving there, so will do my bit everywhere that I can be useful as always. This place is quiet, for now, so a nice place to learn the ropes... hopefully we can get it buzzing.

Congrats on your Administrator badge :)

As for sit ups? don't sweat it. Many people are not anatomically capable of doing them. Its a lot to do with the curvature of the lower spine and not whether you have strong stomach muscles. (so my highly qualified Pilates instructor tells me) Anyway i hear that they are considered to be bad exercise. There are many better ways to develop core strength without doing sit ups. Planks - but i dont like doing them either ;)

Yeah, I hear that pregnant women sometimes lose the ability to do sit-ups... not sure I can use that excuse 😂. I used to be able to do them, so I’m not giving up yet. I do plank quite a bit... it’s ok, just get a bit bored 😂

Congrats on the admin role. You'll be awesome!

I hurt my back end of January and recovery time was improved (I think) by doing core exercises in December to January. Exercises don't have to be strenuous to get benefits from 😁

Agreed... My running and everyday life have been helped a lot by the things I do when I’m not in the cardio zone. I’m getting addicted to not sitting down.
