Was wondering how suitable Pilates is for obese folk like me? Fancy going to a class to see what it's like but don't want to get stuck in a position lol. What's your views please?

I loved doing Pilates and would recommend it for core strength. Why not give it a go? I would strongly advise going to a class though rather than using a DVD because the tutor would be on hand to guide you and keep you safe. And to unravel you if you got stuck!

Strength and Flex would also be very good and you would not get stuck - it's really gentle but effective!

Thanks beek, I will give it a go. I've been looking at Pilate classes at our local gym so will enrol.

If you've got the time and the money and you enjoy the social aspect then it could be great.

However, a weekly class isn't enough by itself, you'd need to be thinking in terms of keeping up by yourself in between times or doing some other similar form of activity.

How have you got on with the NHS Strength and Flexibility programme?

I love my weekly pilates class, and I am 17 stone (well into obeseland). It totally depends on the instructor/class and how much they can modify and provide options for different folk. I love seeing my slow progress towards improvement :) I have been doing it since January and find my posture is improving and the aches and pains are less... I would totally recommend it (and some yoga if you can find it!)

Hi I am doing Pilates as well, this is my second class coming up, and I have found it to be really good. the other people are great and come in all shapes and sizes, so no drama fitting in, the instructor is excellent, and knows her job, so we are all safe.

I love it, and found after a couple of weeks I learned about muscles that had been dormant for years. If you are Ok with it, and get a check out from the instructor first, then go for it, it is the best exercise I have done for strength. I now need to do some exercise to lose weight, tried the Couch to 5k once, and did not work for me, too much pain in my knees, so checking out this Strength and Fitness pods to see if that works better to get me up and going. Good luck with the Pilates and have fun with it. Cheers, Donimac
