My E.N.T. believe it or not told me to go to the Mayo clinic sight and check out "burning mouth syndrome". He also told me about the Biotene product line the toothpaste dosen't burn and there is also mouthwash and gum. Check it out. P.S. Walmart sells it the cheapest I have found so far.

Mouth pain
Hey, Cher-
I told my neuro once that I was having trouble smelling and that my mouth was on fire. I feel like my lips are twice the size, too, and numb outside but burning inside. It hurts to eat ice cream or drink anything cold, as well. He said, no, you don't. !!!!!! The weirdo. I came home and looked it up, sure enough, burning mouth syndrome. With all of his knowledge-he was a professor at a medical college-he didn't know about it. Amazing. I have a younger neuro now who seems very with it-he studied under my old neuro but did his residency somewhere else, smart move.
I've never heard of Biotene, I'll have to look it up.
Good for you that YOUR neuro is wise!
Hello Cher,
I thought it was just me! I too have a burning mouth when using mint toothpaste. In UK, I buy herbal toothpaste, available from one of our cheapest supermarkets - Lidl. Also can't tolerate spicy food any more (loved chilli etc) or red wine(loved that too!) Enjoy a drop of white now, which I never liked before! I thought maybe it was the steroid meds but obviously it is a symptom. Thank you!
Actually it was my ears nose and throat dr.. He since has retired a very wise old fashioned kind of dr.. Rare to find kind. He also had the drugstore whip up a rinse for my mouth it is called miracle mouth wash. Apparently alot of docs know of this. It helped me out of yrs. of agony and then on to Biotene. Try them out they are wonderful if you have burning mouth syndrome they work!!!
I wonder....my regular toothpaste initiates the gag reflex severely sometimes and it is the toothpaste I have forever used. I suppose it is part of my Scleroderma?
