Just recently i had an extremely bad chest infection, i felt really poorly with it. I was put on antibiotics and i then got oral thrush. It was actually my first chest infection and i,m really hoping it will be the last, it was just too much on top of everything else. Hope you dont get any more soon!

I had pneumonia and pleurisy a few years again, and now been diagnosed with a condition called Bronchiectasis, still not sure whether it was the above that caused it or the scleroderma or both. Anyway my response to constant chest infections being treated with antibiotics was a real no-no for me ,as I've also had asthma all my life and the thought that if I happened to have an asthma attack and I'd become immune to drugs through over-use was terrifying. I went to a herbalist, and the outcome was to eat Ribwort Plantain, which joyously grows in abundance in my garden . No more antibiotics for me, so no hideous side-effects and it's on hand for nearly all the year. Do try it, also good for the circulation! x

It's possible you may be able to purchase it in either tea or tincture form? but I pick mine and either steam it with any vegetables I might be cooking, or tear it up and mix with a salad or into soup or stew? Probably better raw, just tastes very bitter, so I try to swamp it with my other food as best I can...therefore I imagine a tea would not be very palatable. :)

A few years ago I was plagued by chest infections which would turn very nasty & went on for months leaving me coughing until I vomitted & sounding like a serious health hazard; needing 2 sets of antibiotics followed by steriods to tame/ not clear it.

Having gone to the asthma nurse for a checkup & cried a lot! She put me on Mycodyne - carbocistene (having me fill out a depression questionnaire at the same time, despite me telling her the dilemma was that I had been sleeping sat bolt upright in the bed for weeks). Mycodyne was like magic, the nurse told me that I was in a cycle of infection causing coughing, coughing causing irritation & mucus to protect the lungs & move out the irritant, which in turn caused coughing.

It was so wonderful that I kept the remnants & used rationed them in times of extreme need. I kept the tattered pack for ages & took it with me when I saw the chest specialist who decided this was good idea & I am now on it permanently to really good effect. I have had the odd chest infection in the last two years, but not a measure of the old ones, at worst a single dose of antibiotics will clear it.

Thank you for your reply cpns, i have never heard of the meds you have been given . my GP s are a nightmare not able to see the one who understands me most .I too have been given steroids and antibiotics that never cure it , i get really ill before they prescribe any more stronger ones , i now get very frightened when ever i get a new infection having to go through the same thing all over again

I read your comment & heard myself in it. I cannot guarantee that my meds would work for you, but they have been like magic for me - I currently have conjunctivitis & tonsilits, but only the faintest crackle at the bottom of my lungs - time as was that would have led to certain chest infection - but now that is not always the case.

It might be worth asking them about it.
