Hi everyone I haven't posted anything for a long time but I'm just wondering does anyone else suffer from night terrors and think it might be linked to lansoprazole, I have been taking lansoprazole for 20 years but for the last few years have been suffering from night terrors which are getting worse and are really distressing, thanks for any help you can give 💕

I’m so sorry you get these .. I get them too but I’m not on lansoprazole . I have nightmares most nights that I’m drowning or being pushed into deep water . I get early hours waking headaches and I’m beginning to wonder if they cause the nightmares .

Have you asked Dr Google if your drug can cause night terrors ? Take care ❤️

The only time I had night terrors was when I was put on an antidepressant to try to calm menopause night sweats. Apparently a known side effect for some people of that particular type of antidepressant. Don't know if that's relevant to you?

I do sadly but this is caused by medical ptsd all of the trauma when awaiting a diagnosis and the gas lighting being told there was nothing wrong with me until they discovered by chance there was many things I also have struggled to come to terms with it all but with help from therapy I’m learning to control things xxx

Yes, & I act out in them, too, thrashing around in the bed, kicked my husband etc. they’ve been poor for a long time now. I swapped from omeprazole to lansoprazole, but never thought about it as a side effect of lansoprazole tbh. I recently started taking Propanolol & thought it may be a side effect of that. How to tell? Stop the lansoprazole? Don’t really want to do that!

I’ve just had a quick look on the National Library of Medicine website and there is a paper on PPI’s causing REM sleep disorders. Probably worth mentioning to your GP that your experiencing this as they could maybe try a different dose or PPI to see if it helps reduce the night terrors. My husband experiences night terrors (but he’s not on medication) I’ve been hit and kicked numerous times in the night. It’s awful for both of us. Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Impieroni, amazing how many are suffering with this isn’t it! I do have nasty nightmares occasionally but never thought about it being drug related. I am only on iron and omeprazole now so it is the only drug that could cause it. Not much help to you but you certainly know you are not alone. Take care.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind replies, I will definitely be speaking to my doctor about my night terrors hopefully I can be given something else for acid reflux I wouldn't be able to manage otherwise 💕💕

once diagnosed over 10 years ago have been prescribed Losartan for raynauds and at some point the nightmares started. March 2023 I stoped taking it in favour of Sildenafil. I haven’t had one since. Who knows whether there is a connection.

I have been on OMEPRAZOLE for three years and I’m starting to have night terrors again, fortunately for me not every night so I really can sympathise with you. As another reply said antidepressants do the same thing. Mine always seem to involve deep or fast flowing water and are so real and distressing and they stay with you. Hope you can find answers soon.

Thank you for your reply I really appreciate everyone who has let me know they struggle with this aswell, I don't have them every night either but when I do it's really distressing but at least now I know it might be lansoprazole and not just me going crazy 😅
