Hello,
Did you get by any chance the AstraZeneca vaccine recently as this causes low platelet count? I haven’t found anything yet that scleroderma causes low platelet count, but I could be wrong. Good luck
I am DX'd with Sine Scleroderma and have been steadily dropping platelets since January when they were around 115,000 . . . now around 42,000. My Rheumatologist wasn't too concerned when I saw her recently because I was recovering from a surgery to fix GAVE Disease for bleeding in the stomach. She did bloodwork, but they were too sticky and the lab couldn't get an appropriate count.
That said, I also have PBC and AIH which have placed me at stage 4 cirrhosis and now my spleen is enlarged. My hepatologist will be checking bloodwork in two weeks and she has requested he get a platelet count. Anxious to know if anything has changed. If not, perhaps my Hep will suggest a treatment? I'll keep you posted.
What info I gather from low platlet...info pharmacist to avoid all meds that promote bleeding. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and use only acetaminophen. Avoid meat tenderizers , MSG and pineapple, especially when eating out. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol. If of child bearing age, avoid a multiple childbirths. Promote healthy gums. Monitor the spleen
Also when phlebotomist takes bloodwork, ask to shake blood vial immediately and vigorously. It makes a big difference in the result count.
