Pain, melatonin, and Raynaud's

My husband and I took a low dose melatonin last night, 3 mgs. It helped me sleep and stay pain free all day long. Taking antihistamine has only worsened Raynaud's syndrome., so I quit in favor of trying melatonin. I was free of pain all day. and slept the night.

I have also taken melatonin at times. It just gives me a rather nice relaxing sleep for a few hours. Unfortunately it doesn’t keep me pain free but does atleast give me quality of sleep with no hang over feeling the next day.

Glad it has helped you

That’s wonderful! Melatonin has some antioxidant effects and can also help with acid reflux. Just be aware of how you feel on it. I’m really sensitive to it, so I only take 1/2 mg; a few years ago, I took 3mgs for awhile and it started making me dizzy. Taking 1/2 and occasionally 1mg is perfect for me. I’m so glad you’ve gotten relief from melatonin!

I agree with you. It can also cause a depressive and even suicidal reaction in some. I had gotten up to using 6mg and started having some strange mental issues. Coincidently, I had gone to a holistic doctor who told me to back off of it and only use 1mg for a reason I can’t quite remember now. After reducing the dose, the mental health issues went away. Awhile later, someone on a forum here told me about the mental health connection and I realized that’s what had been going on with me while using the higher dose.

Good thing you figured that out! It makes sense, as it is a central nervous depressant ( that’s why it calms down and helps asleep when the body releases it at night). It makes sense that too high a dose of it might have too much of a depressant affect it actually affect mental health. I buy a 1 mg lozenge that I just break in half.

Well, it was a coincidence for me luckily. I’m thankful for the gal who warned me so I could warn others to be careful with it. It’s rare, but as you said, some of us are sensitive.

Thank you for the warnings. I will be careful.

Thank you. I will stop taking this until I get it figured out. I have 3 mg melatonin and will see if I can cut them in half. They are really small pills.

If you feel ok on them then you probably don’t need to worry, just monitor how you are feeling and if you emotionally start feeling differently then you can stop or cut back, otherwise it can be a really helpful sleep aid and getting quality sleep is important for us. We were putting that information out there in case someone else reads this who may have started having emotional issues once taking it. 😄

Where can I get Melatonin from in uk?

in reply to

I don't know. I am in the U.S. Do you have Nature's Bounty supplements there? Maybe your pharmacy has it.

Thanks I’ll ask. I’ve just started Pregabalin so this is improving my quality of sleep just now.

Hi Everyone, I no longer take melatonin or antihistamine. I take acetaminophen for pain. I am using nitrobid cream on my hand to prevent ulcers from Raynaud's. It helps, but gives me terrible body aches. Does anyone have suggestions?
