Has anyone had a successful PIP claim?

Hi,

I am going to apply for PIP just wondering if there any useful sites with example answers. I have SS Diffused which has affected by joints, skin and general well being. I was diagnosed in Nov 2016 and friend advised to apply for PIP as its not means tested.

Any help and advice much appreciated.

Thanks,

Naila

Hi, yes I have been successful with my PIP claim. The best advice I can give you is make copies of your form and be extremely honest about your condition. Make sure you list all your medications , even vitamins. Some of the questions may seem repetitive, but they need to ascertain the right amount for your award. It takes up to 16 weeks or a little longer under the current circumstances. Once the assessor has read your form , you will receive a letter asking you to be available for an interview. Most likely by telephone. Don’t be nervous, the person I spoke to was lovely and made me feel quite at ease. Good luck with your claim, and I hope 2021 is a happy year for you and your friends and family.

Hi Joanne,Thankyou - did u fill in the form yourself? Also did u add a statement from a friend or family member. I have all my letter/reports from consultants.

All the best for 2021.

Hiya, I got half way through and my husband had to finish the form for me due to my hands becoming extremely painful and brain fog 🙄. If you have had any adjustments to your home because of your condition, it’s worth mentioning and also any equipment you need to open jar, tins etc. Good luck, have a great day.

I have also, the advice given by ciderbabe is very good. I would also add that i copied letters from the consultant which detailed all the problems i have. I had a face to face interview, (before the pandemic) where the assessor came to my house and was really nice also.

I did fill in the form myself, i have received pip for about 4 years now. I did keep a copy of the forms, and used these to refer to when i had a review (which is about every 3 years). I just said how it impacted on me, certain things i have trouble doing, eg cutting veg/meat etc as my hands are quite weak.

Hi naila_007 I was successful claiming PIP and the advice you've been given so far is correct. You have asked if there are examples of questions and answers, no not to my knowledge, as everyone is different and your answers are unique to you. For example you may be able to complete a task with no problem, but someone else with the same diagnosis may find that task impossible. With PIP if you cannot to something safely, reliably and repeatedly (at least 50% ofthe time), then the answer to the question is No and give examples of how it is difficult/impossible for you to do. Just be yourself and you'll do fine. Good luck. Jan x

Hello and sorry for the late reply. There is a website set up by two barristers, I think it’s called Benefits at Work or something like that. Well worth a look. There are changes in the way PIP is being dealt with at the moment and they explain it all on here. You have to detail your worst day and what you cannot do NOT what you can do. I had enhanced DLA for ten years, and PIP when I was transferred, then suddenly on my last face to face assessment in 2018 they reduced me to standard for both even though my condition had deteriorated. I completed the mandatory consideration process and with medical evidence was given extra points to keep my car. They told me by letter that what I had written in my statement had given them information which had been used to reduce my daily living to standard payment. That’s what happened when I was truthful! Good luck 😉 Kim
