hey Everyone

I’ve had scleroderma 6 years now. I previously used to have lip fillers but have not since diagnosis. I really hate how it’s made my lips look so thin…it makes my face look so different! Has anyone had lip fillers or fat transfer with scleroderma?

thank you x

hey there I have lip fillers and Botox as it makes me feel better it’s not for everyone and there is some risk as your more susceptible to scaring but you have to do what makes you feel better I have 0.5 ml every 9 months and that just makes me feel more normal and Botox every six months again I was told the risks by my consultant but that is a choice I have made xxx

Thank you for the info! What did your consultant say the risks are? I’m due to see my consultant in feb but I just wanted to get some info. I look back at photos and it just makes me feel crap it’s changed my mouth so much x

My consultant advised me against it saying with scleroderma you are more at risk of thickening and scarring to be honest but I made the choice to continue my aesthetic nurse has known me for years I would say make sure you go to someone you know and trust but there is obviously risks xx

Hi Mary, I have heard that you can have your lips done at the royal free and they use fat transfer rather than fillers. Might be worth looking into. I know what you mean about how it changes your looks, mine aren’t too thin but I have deep lines radiating out from them. Looks as if I’m constantly pouting 🥺

I was referred by my scleroderma specialist for a lip transfer which I had done in June. I am due to have it repeated soon. Was told this was better - more natural. Perhaps you could ask about this at your next appointment.

Hi,

I had a phone call November to say I am top of the list for a lip transfer.

I was unsure whether to go ahead with it as I know it doesn’t last and it had to be repeated.

Could I ask you your thoughts as you’ve had the procedure please. Was it worth having done?

Mine has got so bad, thin lips, deep lines and can’t even drink out of a cup without it spilling down the sides.

I’m scared if I’m honest

Best wishes

Brenda

Hi, I understand how you are feeling. My thoughts were I’d regret it more if I didn’t do it rather than if I did.

I also didn’t realise it would need to be repeated 6 months later. To allow more fat to take on the new fat. It’s the second procedure I’m waiting for.

The procedure was more painful than I thought it would be. My stomach was very sore - mouth was fine. I went to work 10 days later but went back too soon. I’m not sure it’s made a great deal of difference but hope after second procedure I’ll be able to notice more.

Family saw improvements me not so much. Though I did go to my son's graduation 5 weeks later and felt tremendous!!

Hope this helps…

Hi,

Thank you for getting in touch and updating me how your procedure went.

I would be interested after your second procedure your thoughts of the outcome. If you didn’t mind.

I’m still sitting on the fence for to time being. Thank you so much for your insight.

Kind regards

Hi, there's a thread about the fat transfer procedure, here: healthunlocked.com/sruk/pos.... You can read about my experience there, and I'm always happy to answer any questions.

All the best whatever you decide :)

Hi,

I’ve had lip fillers in the past but it just didn’t last very long. It’s a known fact that us scleroderma warriors seem to have the ability to breakdown the Hyaluronic acid more rapidly than other people, it therefore became to expensive for me. Plus I also suffered from horrendous bruising. I’ve heard that fat transfer is better but obviously it needs to be approved by NHS as it’s not done by aesthetics practitioners. Good luck. I hate how my lips are now, feel I always look miserable 🙁 even when I’m not.

Thanks for raising this question. I have never had full lips or a wide mouth but it didn’t bother me back then . Scleroderma is beginning to make them look pinched, and, together with the lines I’d say they look like a cat’s bum 😉

I shall be asking if anything can be done by use of fat x
