Hi 👋

What pain relief do you use for joint pain? I’m on Plaquenil but it’s not helping yet. Nurofen is good (hard on stomach)

I use meloxicam and bu trans patches. I have quite severe osteoarthritis as well though.

Hi!

Hydroxychloroquine has not helped me at all with pain; currently I take 2 x 30/500 cocodamol tablets every four hours 10am/2pm/6pm then at about 10pm I take 10mls of oramorph ... helps but never entirely gets rid of pain. Going crackers with pain — was due to have steroid injections but obvs pandemic stopped those — hopefully will be re-organised in the not to distant future; this is not a nice disease hun, gods luck with your pain control and please let me know if anything works?

Take care and Stay Safe

Pat H

Thanks Pat - oh I don’t know if I’m at the start of hopefully a long journey or if I’ve had it years. Thank you for your advice x

Hi, I tried everything - hydroxycloroquine n all manner of opiates n anti inflammatories. CBD oils n even the medical marijuana. The only thing that has given me a bit of a Quality of life is a low dose steroid prednisone - 7.5mg a day. I know the word steroid evokes horror n most people’s minds. Mine too but I’ve had to weigh this up between being crippled n managing a bit. I’ve been on it two years now n no side effects. The benefits of it are lessening now n I know it’s no cure but for at least a year, it made such a difference. I was still stiff but not nearly so disabled with the isolated joint pain n overall feeling of inflammation n pain. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hi, like MisssTee, I too take Meloxicam. When I started over 18 months ago I was on 15mg a day (note: only need to take once a day, which is great if like me who doesn’t like taking lots of oral meds). Seemed to help. Apparently less harsh on the stomach (I had no problem). Be aware that while on Meloxicam you shouldn’t take other NSAID’s (ie: Nurofen/ibuprofen) as this will give you stomach issues.

I now take 7.5mg a day, some days it works some days not so well. It also depends what other meds you are on and the severity of your condition (and there are those terrible ‘flare up’ times where nothing seems to help).

I am on Plaquenil, Omeprazole and Plendil (this one for better blood circulation).

Like all illnesses, the meds may change according to your symptoms.

Hope this helps
