I was the same about the pain killers but not about the knees. My pains are elsewhere. My GP gave me Amitriptyline a small dose. It acts on the brain receptors. It works well, does not remove the pain completely but makes it barable.

hi Zenabb, saw a GP this morning. He was very nice and very patient as I was in tears in the surgery!!! He has started me on Prednisolone and Amitriptyline so fingers crossed! I also had blood tests and he signed me off work for a week. Only started my new job yesterday so that doesnt look that great!!! Work were ok about it, as ive worked with one of the people for 5 years about 2 years ago and she knows I was never off sick. Ive probably got to see occupational health and I'm not sure what will happen with my job but they are going to try and sort something for me. x

I wish I knew Yorky- tried last week to make an SOS appointment with the rheumatologist but the receptionist was off!!! And this week both are off!! It's ridiculous that I can't get through to anyone- im going to try again tomorrow there must be someone who can help!! the GP's have been great- really trying to help me -I'm just hoping these new meds will do the trick!!

Hi Kerry.......I really feel for you....I also have terrible knee pain and pain in my hips and pain in my degenerative spine...I am on maximum pain relief in the form of amitriptiline and morphine sulphate.....the combination of these drugs do offer some relief....have you contacted your Nurse Specialist ?, these nurses are probably your best port of call.....they can offer sound advice and are able to ensure that you are offered a referral to the specialist that will help you with your problems........good luck...I hope you get things sorted out X

Thanks wartsandall the NHs trust I have no longer has a nurse specialist...not sure if they are going to get a new one or not...so the helpline number is useless...when I next see the consultant I'm going to tell him about the problem I've had and who I can contact if he and his secretary aren't available. I think the prednisolone might be having an affect but still no sleep last night x

If you are suffering from such chronic pain, then your first impulse might be to reach for a pill, But don't rely on such medication to deal with it. Take natural painkillers instead, you will definitely get relief with it.
