wrist pain and stiffness

I was just wondering if anyone can relate to wrist pain on pinkie side , redness and swelling ? No numbness or pins and needles . More painful at night and in the morning . Gotten worse over last 6 weeks or so . Not injuried it .

GP phone call suggested carpal tunnel and wear splint in bed 🛌 but I’m not convinced . What with me being a specialist Dr 👩‍⚕️ and all that 😂😉.

Thank you for reading and take care 😘

that looks very painful! Poor you I have no idea what’s wrong but you should get nerve condition, xray and ultrsound to check. I’m getting all these for my left elbow now but it’s taken four months of no one really doing much while waiting for results of neck MRI last week. Seems it’s not coming from my neck so hence the other tests. Nothing to see though unlike yours xx

OldTed your posts are always great and I always read them several times as I love them and they are so informative

. How are you doing this week ? A friend of mine opted for colostomy due to colitis ruining his life and his said the colostomy gave him his life back . I was 50/50 when I had bowel resection for endometriosis but didn’t need it in the end . Sorry I’ve gone off topic but I always feel for you so much as you have so much going on .

Remind me again why they waited again for MRI of neck ? Did they think trapped nerve in your neck ?

Thanks for your wrist advice and I’ll have a chat with private gp service and see if can sort ultra sound . You take care x

Thanks so much🤗 I’m getting my Iloprost today so bursting at seems with EM glow and hard to type. Rheumy phoned last night and was lovely. She found the radiology report for my neck and it’s still severe osteoarthritis in C5/6 and 6/7 with some squishing of spinal chord and narrowing but no full blown stenosis to explain the left arm pain. She thinks maybe it’s scleroderma squeezing my elbow, causing ulnar and caroal tunnel plus mostly tennis elbow so is putting me for EMG/ NCS and ultrsound of elbow. Xray of elbow was entirely normal. I suggested it might be EDS hyperextending stuff and she thought that a possibility too.

The cannula is in my bad left arm today so I’m hoping if I rest it all day on pillow I’ll manage to hold onto the cannula and get my full quota. If the next try at portacth is to happen soon then I have to stop my Mycophenolate 2 weeks prior and not restart until it’s fully healed.

She’s already expedited my long awaited echo due to episodes of syncope. I checked she thinks Iloprost worth the risk of another portacth and she said “yes absolutely as you can’t tolerate the others!” She’s also taking “labial gland” off and switching to lip biopsy positive - and same with “Limited SSc/ Sjögren’s” to “Systemic Sclerosis and Sjögren’s”. This was once I’d put case to her about with general HCPs esp surgeons either panicking or underestimating when they read my diagnoses sheet at top of her letters.

I’m so lucky - I love her - it’s like chatting to a younger close friend now. I can be completely myself with her, giggles, worries and niggles X

Ps that wrist defo needs checking out Tiggy xx

I am so glad you’ve got a lovely rheumy that must make such a difference . Your issues are so complicated you certainly need someone who knows what they are talking about . It’s really important to have the right diagnoses on our records I totally agree with you as I don’t think consultants would ever stop to question if it was wrongly input or documented .

You rest that arm as much as you can as you need that cannula to stay in 💪. I bet your elbow is so painful as not much flesh around that joint 😬. Keep us posted later on in week hun when your arm back in action ! Take care xxx

Ps colostomies are reversible but illeostomy is not so removing small bowel would be a huge thing for me. I do think it’s worth discussing in March with colorectal consultant though so 🤞🏻xx

Definitely worth talking to him and weighing up all your options xxx

Carpal tunnel syndrome is more likely to affect thumb, index finger and middle finger. I wonder if what you have is a ganglion?

Hi there, just commenting to say I have something kind of similar... Mine is not red and swollen (yours looks very sore) but feels more like the skin on the ulnar bone is tightening over night and I would struggle to turn my hands palm up when it's like this. It's fine as the day goes on but at night and in the morning it's very tight. I started using compression gloves overnight and it does seem to be ever so slightly better. I'm still (impatiently) waiting on a diagnosis. Best of luck, I hope it gets better.

The tendons in my right wrist tightened last year after I had Gadolinium injected into my hand a few months earlier. I think some leaked out.

My GP sent me to the Practice physio who gave me exercises that helped.

The tightness and other sensations are worse at night and when I wake up.

I have found that straightening my hand and maybe then lying on it for a few minutes before it goes numb😒, helps.

It is a constant battle a bit, but when pain strikes I now think 'straighten' hand.

I have also used a little voltarol gel when I could not sleep.

Your wrist looks really sore. I'm thinking possibly joints in wrist are swollen causing redness and swelling, but tendons run down both sides of wrist as well in the wrist and hand.

I hope things have improved since you posted.
