Phenergan

I have been taking Phenergan for about 10 years, I took it as an antihistamine & sedative. I have noticed of late that it is making my asthma worse so have stopped taking it. I’m now suffering sleep deprivation & tired & irritable during the day. My GP does not know that I took the drug. Any advice how to get off this drug please.

Hi Boxer215

I am sorry you are struggling right now, I have had insomnia for over 20 years, and take Nytol which I too am addicted to. I have an appointment with a sleep clinic and very much hoping to get some help. I will let you know how it goes and what help I get to come of antihistamines. I suspect you need to take them for allergies also.

phenegan gave me T along with sertraline. I’m on zopiclone now which doesn’t affect T but is addictive.

Only other safe option is the herbal meds which don’t work for me unfortunately.

Hello-I have been free of it since last August-I'd been taking 50mg per night, for insomnia, since 2008. I was weaned off it gradually from December 2021 until I took the last 10mg on 24 August 2022. You need to tell your doctor and let him/her guide you through a plan-mine told me there were worse things I could have taken...... I had no choice but to come off it because the online companies I bought it from started refusing to sell me it. I never thought I'd be able to sleep without it but I do. Very best of luck-I notice you are UK based like me so I hope you have a decent GP!

Hi & thank you for the enthusiasm to carry on. Whilst I’m UK based I live in France where it’s not OTC anymore. I haven’t told my French GP but hopefully I can crack on & not have to tell him, but thank you again.

If you can still get hold of it(I couldn't) gradually wean yourself off......I think I did 25mg,then 20,then 10.....going cold turkey would have been a nightmare. You are very welcome but I'd still tell your quack/physician Francaise 🤣👍

Thank you again, I used a cold remedy to reduce the use of a sedative, after a week I’m not using anything,I slept the 1st time last night but had a few strange aches & a few allergy problems but hopefully over the hill. I like my French GP but don’t know how he would react, I lived in Germany before moving here & certainly wouldn’t have told my physician there!!
