Taking breaks

Info for all of you who think taking breaks from meds is a good idea and after short period of time test are ok!!!!! Be very careful. My original diagnosis 1993 stage 2 and 2 lymph nodes positive. Did all the treatments, continued with monitoring, 19 years later MBC to my spine. Now 11 yrs on my treatment cocktail Ibrance fosladex and Zometa I’m in remission. It goes to show how microscopic cells can spread through the body and lay dormant for years. So if you think you can play games without consequences!!I was just celebrating my first great grandchild ‘s first birthday. If I didn’t attack my cancer as aggressively as I have I’m sure I wouldn’t have enjoyed a beautiful celebration.

Congratulations. I think of one good day. It’s been since 2010. The oncologist said my recurrence rate was so low that I would never have cancer again. 2018 MBC to my stomach lining and rectum. And ribs. Ibrance turned my rib cancer into scar tissue. My cancer in my stomach lining is in remission. My rectum has a cancerous stricture. My new oncologist said I am th one percent. Enjoy your baby. I am 71 and have one 8 year old grandson. The light of our lives. Enjoy. Reenie

On the subject of taking breaks, you should always do it with the guidance of your doctor but as said many times before we are all different!

Cheers, June S.

Similar story here. Fortunately they threw everything at me first time round and I had 26 cancer free years before MBC jumped up and but me! I take everything I'm given and pleased to say I'm doing ok. X

Hello,

It wasn't clear to me when you took a treatment break.

I also wondered what your status was after 7 years on Femara. Did you show progression then? Is that why your oncologist changed your treatment to Ibrance and Faslodex?

It is very useful to us all to share treatment experiences. Thanks for your input.

Cheers,

Cindy

Hi There, I celebrate your longevity and very lucky strike on a long life and history with MBC. But it I have seen amazing women fiercely attacking MBC, no breaks, great doctors, great discipline and despite it all….still losing their battles in a short period of time. You are lucky! If someone needs a break, maybe that is what their mind and body need- as to the outcome, how long we will each live and how many will be as lucky as you….well we all wished we could know.

Congratulations that is incredible !
