Hi everyone,

I need your help. My last CT revealed the endometrium thickness 20 mm. I was referred to the gynecologist for further evaluation. I am very nervous and anxious. I was on tamoxifen for almost three months but finished it in October. I am on Xeloda now

Please share your experience if you had a similar situation.

I just had my biopsy back and it showed the endometrium cancer I was crying for the whole day Anyone had this? I was on tamoxifen for two years when I had my primary breast cancer 10 years ago and from July to September now

Thank you so much

Marina

Hi Cureforever,

I'm sorry, I don't have experience and actually new virtually nothing about this condition before reading your post...So I searched a bit...

I found this article...Medical News Today (I'm not sure it's reliable, but think it is?)...and it actually lists tamoxifen as a *cause*... medicalnewstoday.com/articl...

So it's possible that this is a response to the treatment and, while unpleasant and worrisome, might mean nothing bad about the cancer, in general? I hope this is the case but am eager for others to weigh in so I can learn more....

My very best,

Lynn

Hi LynnThank you very much for your reply. I know about tamoxifen but I am shaking in hope that it’s benign

Best,

Marina

Hi MarinaMy Mum had that. She does not have mbc.

The gynae said that it’s something that can happen to ladies later in life. They monitor it regularly by uss. She is fine and nothing sinister is going on.

Hope your news is good

Hi Clare ! I haven’t been on for a while but just came on and saw your message about your mum . I have been preoccupied recently looking after my 85 year old mum , who suddenly started with post menopausal abnormal vaginal bleeding a couple of months ago . We managed to get her fast tracked here on the NHS for suspected endometrial cancer , which was confirmed by an ultrasound scan and then a hysteroscopy / biopsy ( mum has previously been in good health and is fit for her age and not had MBC ) and just under three weeks ago she had surgery , a full hysterectomy with bikini line incision and is now healing well . We have an appointment with the surgeon / oncologist at the end of the month to get surgery tissue and lymph node results / feedback to check for any spread , and then it will be decided if she needs any further cancer treatment. She was told by the consultant that risk factors include :-older age / obesity / diabetes / few pregnancies/ starting menopause late / taking HRT / and Tamoxifen treatment ( mum only had one of these … age ! , and was not considered high risk for endometrial cancer ) .

I can understand your concern about Tamoxifen Marina and I hope you are ok .

For any other ladies reading this on here , if you ever have abnormal post menopausal bleeding do get it checked out quickly so that treatment/ surgery can start promptly .

Take care ! x

Hi LeshOh gosh you have been going through it with your poor Mum.

I hope she recovers well and you get good news. It is such a worry isn’t it when others have the ca scare? We are used to it, but we aren’t used to being on the other side of a cancer diagnosis.

Hope you are keeping ok too?

I’ve been managing to cycle to work a couple of days a week recently. Lovely to e back in the saddle

Thanks Clare ! Glad to hear you’re back in the e-bike saddle ! I hope to get back on mine now the weather is looking brighter and mum is having NHS ‘BEST’ home care in for a few weeks to help her get back to some normality . I am doing ok … next scan for me in a couple more months so 🤞. How about you ? Take care ! x 😘

in reply to Teddielottie

That’s less of a worry for you then, when the carers go in. Lucky to get some at the moment.I’m due scans in June as well. Let’s hope we can be in sync with stable news.

Enjoy the Easter weekend, it’s going to be a nice one

Thank you so much. I would like to believe that I do not have it. But I am very very nervous. How is your mom doing? Was it local? I read that it’s curable Best to you and your mom.

Mum is recovering well after the surgery, especially given that she is over 85 . I think the hysteroscopy wasn’t very pleasant ( even tho’ she had ‘local’ injections in cervix and had gas & air ). For the abdominal surgery she had general anaesthetic. Just have to wait now for surgery biopsy results to see if any further cancer treatment is required. ( if there has been any spread ) . But 🤞for you both xx

Thanks for your reply. Did ct scan or pet ct show any spread? Usually it does if there is any. Best to you and your mom.

Her initial ct scan prior to the hysterectomy didn’t show spread

I think it’s a good news. They are checking anyway

Thinking of you Marina following your recent endometrial biopsy results . Have you an appointment to discuss it further? An update on my mum , she was found to have stage 3a endometrial cancer (clear cell carcinoma) following her recent full hysterectomy ( cancer was found in the tested removed Fallopian tube post surgery ), but the positive news is that it hasn’t spread elsewhere or gone to the lymph nodes . We next see an oncologist to decide if any other treatment (such as chemo) is recommended (mum is 85 but is doing well now , 5 weeks after her surgery ).

Sending love x

Hi Caroline. I got results yesterday and it showed the endometrium cancer. I hoped it was not cancer but it was. I cried for the whole day. They told me that the staging will be after the surgery. Did your mom have bleeding or vaginal discharge? How was she diagnosed? I did not have any symptoms. The pet ct revealed that. I also have some blockage in the ureter. I need that surgery first. I am so so upset. Did they do some tests to yiur mom beforehand? Thank you so much for following up with me. I am a mess.

Please keep me posted

Good luck to you and your mom.

My mum had abnormal vaginal bleeding completely out of the blue at age 85 with no previous history or cancer . Fortunately we got her to her GP quickly and she was fast tracked here in the U.K. (NHS ).She had tests ( ultrasound scan , and a hysteroscopy under local anaesthetic . A Ct scan showed no spread to other organs , but the hysteroscopy biopsy samples came back positive for endometrial cancer ( the type was the more aggressive clear cell carcinoma ) . It was then that a full hysterectomy was recommended ( which mum had 5 weeks ago ) . She did have post surgery complications whilst in hospital , but is doing well now ( she is fit and active and walks daily and climbs her stairs ) . The post surgery staging came back as stage 3a endometrial cancer ( it was in the removed Fallopian tube , but had not spread elsewhere nor to lymph nodes ). We will see an oncologist next month to see if any further treatment is recommended. I hope you soon have a plan and can be treated quickly . Take care ! x

Thanks a lot for your reply How long was the surgery?

Teddielottie profile image
Teddielottie in reply to Cureforever

It was abdominal hysterectomy under general anaesthetic but it took 1-2 hours approx with preparation and recovery room after

Hi. Did your mom go home the same day? Thank you.

Teddielottie profile image
Teddielottie in reply to Cureforever

No , it is usually 2-4 days if full hysterectomy by abdominal incision here . If keyhole or vaginal surgery much quicker ! But depends on scale of surgery / age etc

Cureforever in reply to Teddielottie

They told me that it’s laproscopic and that I would go home the same day

Is further treatment recommended?

Hi Marina

I had endometrial thickening in 2018, 3 years after first diagnosis of breast cancer. Had been on tamoxifen for 2.5 years. Examinations and biopsy taken, I was told not to take tamoxifen for a month, had a big bleed, another Examination and a scan followed. Given my history a full hysterectomy was done with my full and happy consent, pathology showed nothing untoward so it was put down to the tamoxifen.

Best wishes, Caroline

Hi Caroline,I was on tamoxifen for three months only and I finished it in October. I am scared of the results of biopsy.

I have enough on my plate with MBC.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Hi Marina. Thinking of you and hoping for good news. MBC is enough to be dealing with on its own. Take care xx

Thank you so much for your nice words. It is enough. Now I am dealing with two separate issues that the pet ct revealed. The urological problem and the gynecological one. I have my hands full. I am very nervous and upset.Hope for new drugs that will cure us.

Good Morning, I am very sorry you are going thru this. 13-years ago - My mom (at 70) and sister (at 50) were both diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. They both had a full hysterectomy and where "ok" after that. They both had very bad vaginal bleeding. Both doctors were very optimistic and that this type of cancer has a very high life expectancy rate.

They did not have MBC or any other cancers. Me on the other hand, well....

Sending my thoughts to you. Tara :)

Thank you so much Tara for your encouragement. I do not have any bleeding. My pet ct first showed the uptake and then it was confirmed by the biopsy I am very scared

I am glad that you are well. I have my hands full with mbc and now this.

my experience was different, and Tamoxifen related. with the initial dx in Oct 2011, the treatment plan was Tamoxifen and radiation; was not thrilled about Tamoxifen. was still having a moon cycle on Tamoxifen; perhaps it was not strong enough for the estrogen in this body? each visit with the ob/gyn presented 'fluid' in the abdomen, probably related to Tamoxifen; she found it 'strange.' due to side affects, stopped Tamoxifen after three years. mets dx treatment put a chemical end to the moon cycle; still some fluid, though less than when on Tamoxifen. keeping you in my thoughts.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Were you diagnosed with endometrial cancer? I have mbc and just was diagnosed with the endometrial cancer. I am so upset.Best

no endometrial cancer dx; the mets dx was to the right pluera and pleural effusion. i can recall when my mom was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 1996 at 58; she lived to 81. i was "scared" for her. i checked in with the doctor that it was not hereditary. however, for me, a bc dx in Oct 2011 and mets dx in July 2015. may you be at ease.
