neuprogen shots and taxol! Can an y of you give me info on whether you went on neuprogen because of low ANC while on weekly taxol and what experiences you have had. Also did you have to stay on the shots all the rest of treatment time?

Did nine months of Taxol. 48 hours after the treatment, I would give myself a Neupogen shot at home to combat low white blood counts etc. and it always helped with fatigue.

I have horrendous bone pain from the shot. I can barely function without yelling in pain AND I have a very high genetic and metabolic pain tolerance that has been tested. So, this crap has to go. Plus I am experiencing a lot of fatigue from the shots. I felt good with the taxol. I think they are going to have to lower my taxol dose to allow my bone marrow to come back on its own. I have been dealing with BC for 24 years and never had these shots initially when on full dose chemo back in the dayy. I will go for my third shot at hospital tomorrow AM and then my 8th treatment, third round will be given. I may do the shots at home next week but I am NOT a fan and cannot function today at all in any meaningful way. Where were you treated? Did the docs ever reduce your weekly dosage? I was told 24 hours after infusion to give myself the shots next week once they arrive at my house. I may do this one more week until the end of 3 month scans. But after that, no way if this is what to expect.

I think reducing your treatment dose would be your best option. I just went on Eribulin and my white count plunged, landing me in the hospital due to muccositis so bad I couldn’t eat or drink. They checked me for any other infections which thankfully I didn’t have, but truthfully, I would not want to go through that again. I haven’t researched Neupogen. Is there a different treatment or even brand that might not cause the same pain? Bone pain can be horrible so you have my sympathy. Your docs should know and find a way to relieve you of the pain. Best wishes, Elaine

Try taking a Claritin 24 hour allergy medication about a half hour before giving the neurogen shot. It helps some people with the bone pain.

Yes I know about Claritin. I take it every morning anyway. What is the half hour window about?

I feel like I get ahead of the bone pain.

Yes 3 shots. Bad reaction a week later after the 1st dose. Took Claritan and it went away.

interesting! I had my third shot today. The second shot, yesterday, gave me extreme pain but so far today, no bad pain from third shot. The onco is talking to me about reducing my taxol to 75 mgs and see if that helps. I am up for that and will push that approach to see what happens.
