Has anyone on here ever had a uterine (endometrial) biopsy? I have one this coming Wednesday and I have no idea what to expect. Trying not to be scared of the procedure, let alone the results!
I am being treated for a chest wall recurrence of my breast cancer (Ibrance and Arimidex) They have been keeping an eye on an ovarian cyst with periodic ultrasounds but now there have been some changes that need to be addressed. The cyst is larger and there is a small "septation" so it is no longer a simple cyst. Also, there is a small amount of fluid in my uterus.
My impression is that my Gyn-Onc would do a hysterectomy, but even she admits that this might not be anything. I refuse to have that surgery, possibly for nothing. It feels like it would be another huge loss.
We have "compromised" starting with the uterine bx. If that is negative, we will remove the cyst and the ovary to see if that is anything. Of course if anything is found there will be a hysterectomy. But one thing at a time! If anyone has any info I would so appreciate it. Thank you!

Hi girlsptz, Thanks for your response and kind words.Sadly, my doctor thinks that there could be a problem in my uterus as well as the cyst/ovary, but I am first ruling out a problem with the uterus. The uterine biopsy is a minor procedure done in the Drs. office. If that is negative, then the cyst/ovary, will be removed in an out patient surgery. If that is negative as well, no more surgery. If the uterine bx is positive, then she will do a hysterectomy and the cyst /ovary will be removed with everything else. I hope that helps to clarify. A hysterectomy sounds so awful to me, but I suppose that I will get through it like everything else
I just spent the last two months doing all of the above. Endometrial biopsy, and hysterectomy.Good thing because they found ovarian cancer that was removed. 80% of the cervix was squamous cells.
The biopsy is more uncomfortable than painful. Hysterectomy at 78 with lateral cut was not very painful but also uncomfortable . Pain Controlled by Tylenol. I’m in my third week of recovery. Laying low for probably another month.
Lots of Netflix and good books.
And a wonderful husband taking care of me.
Good luck and gather caregivers to help. Let them take care of you for a while.
Hi Gwennie, Thanks for your response. All good advice. Perhaps I need to be more open-minded about hysterectomy, it doesn't have to be the end of the world! I wish you a continued good recovery. God Bless your husband, I have a great guy too!
Hi Maddy I agree the endometrial biopsy is very uncomfortable not painful! I had to have it done before I had my total hysterectomy. All I had was two small slits and they removed everything laparoscopicly . They had done Ct scan ultrasound of uterus and the endometrial biopsy before hand. All came back good. No sign of cancer. BUT when they sent everything away after the hysterectomy they found a spec of breast cancer in my right ovary that would be to small to show up on a pet scan. I don't know how old you are in my case I was 61 my gynecologist gave me all kinds of statistics about how high someone with breast cancers odds of a spread to the ovaries and uterus and was encouraging me to have the hysterectomy. Since I was through having children I felt why fight this so I agreed. So glad I did!!!!! In my case the hot flashes are no worse now then they where before the procedure. I have to agree with Sandra to not pussyfoot around unless there is a significant reason you have for not wanting the hysterectomy. Take care hope you make the right decision for you!!!
Hi Justme, Thanks for your response. I a m 70, and there is no solid reason for me not to have a hysterectomy. It is psychological! This is my fourth time with breast cancer, and it seems like a loss, an interruption, another procedure etc. I believe that I need to be more open-minded about it, perhaps it is not as bad as I imagine! Thanks for your help.
I had a “rust” colored fluid in my panty liner and I was concerned about another female type cancer. I had a colposcopy, which is uncomfortable because they need to open the cervix. Results from the colposcopy came back negative for cancer. It turns out that I had changed body washes and when I stopped using the new one, I no longer had the discharge on my panty liner.
Hi 🌺 The first thing is do not worry before time. Statistics say that when a woman has breast cancer and takes medicines like Tamoxifen it can cause "endometriosis" which is the thickening of the endometrium, which at the
end would end in cancer. I have had at least 4 endometrial biopsies since 2010. This as a control. It is a gynecological exam not pleasant for anyone but it is not painful, it is quite fast, and nothing different from a routine gynecological check-up. There is a medical explanation in that doctors prefer to remove the ovaries than deal with the production of hormones. Much has to do with how many more years your body has menstruation. In my case, I am receiving the zoladex injection on a monthly basis so as not to ovulate. Several times they have mentioned to me that I should have surgery, but due to costs, I have not done it. a pleasure to greet you and have sweet dreams 🌺
Hello Maludagui, Thank you for your response, it really was helpful. It sounds like there is no need for worry about having this procedure. I appreciate your support.🐈
They were not able to get the uterine biopsy! This coming Tuesday they will remove my ovarian cyst in out patient surgery and do the biopsy then. Thanks so much for asking 🐈
