Dancing to Soul Music

My aches and pains disappeared today when my husband put a Soul L.P. on to play and it took me back to my teens. I danced until the end and oh boy did I feel better. It doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom for us sufferers when something simple puts us in a better place and frame of mind. I started my Ibrance Wednesday again and had my Denosumab injection. I was feeling down but what a difference these simple sounds from the past made to my wellbeing. So pleased he played my old favourites. He buys Vintage records for my Stepdaughter to sell in her shop which is like a blast from the past. Vintage clothes, jewellery and many other items plus a lovely little tea room. My happy moments for today. Have a good weekend ladies.😍🥰

Music has charms to soothe a savage breast

(cancer)

Music has the power to enchant even the roughest of people. This proverb comes from the play The Mourning Bride, by William Congreve, an English author of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.

How very true.

Oh my! Me too! I love music from the 70s and 80s. Puts in a good mood every time. I especially love Freddie Mercury (Queen). I wish I had seen him live in concert. Curious...Did any of you get to see him? How about you ladies in the U.K.? I’ll be so jealous.

PS. My first cousin is Caylee Hammack (country artist). She released her 1st album yesterday. She’s hit the big time. Got her picture on the billboards in Times Square and everything. We’re all so proud of her.

in reply toStaysha

Go for it Caylee. Great news. Never saw Queen but they were great.

in reply toStaysha

Just watched Caylee on YouTube. She’s great and so attractive. Let’s hope her career goes a long way. Best wishes.

I love this so much! :) You remind me that it has been months since I've "danced" (no natural coordination/rhythm (omg, how is that a word/spelling!!)) and I agree that it feels great! Lots of endorphins and great exercise! Truly, thanks for the reminder...blasting the "stereo" and letting loose would be a great antidote right now! :)

in reply to

Go for it. Yes release those endorphins. I ached a little after but so worth it.

It’s called Frieda Mo’s in Liverpool. Named after her two Grandmothers. She does have a website now..

I love 80's music too its lovely to hear a song you liked from the past that you had forgotten about, music for me means I either forget about cancer, or feel good because cancer doesnt stop me from singing or dancing

I didn’t realise how much I love music and dancing. It will be every day dancing from now on.

Hi Cheryl,

That sounds like fun! I'm glad you had a good time. I was intrigued when you mentioned Frieda Mo's, so I Googled it. The shop and tearoom look amazing. If I'm ever in Liverpool I will have to stop by your stepdaughter's shop.

Have a lovely weekend!

Sophie

in reply to

Sophie you really must pay a visit if you come to the Pool. She has a wonderful open space at the back of the shop as well so social distancing is easy.

You have a good weekend to.

😉💖

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks! That sounds great. I'll let you know if I am able to go.

Dear Sandra,

Did you see the movie about Queen's life. It was great. Had tears sometimes but mostly smiles. Blessing, Hannah

in reply tohdhonda

Yes we have seen it. I’m wondering if it’s on Netflix. I’m going to see if I can find it. Boy George also made a film about his life. That was really sad in places.

If you love to dance you may want to try Body Groove! I found it online and I've been grooving for over a month. It has definitely lifted my spirits. Dancing is good for the soul!

Will take a look. Thank you. X

I really miss the 70's, and 80's music, clothing, and dance party's. I look forward to my next 70's/80's party, especially after the challenges we all have been facing since the beginning of the Corona virus pandemic.

We have to make the most of what we have right now. Let’s all think positive and wish that it won’t be to long before we can have all these things again. Take care.

Thank you for your post 💙 Music can be so healing .. whether it lets our emotions take us to joy or to sorrowful tears. I prefer the former but sometimes all the pent up stress can flow from our eyes and hearts and relieve some of that pressure we feel with this diagnoses. Nothing like dancing for exercise though. My daughter use to dance so beautifully and athletically flipping through the air with ease . However in high school she was tragically paralyzed in a hit and run accident. In a wheelchair now , She learned to throw veils and fans into the air in our belly dance class with her neurologically compromised hands and arms ....we must all try to live our best lives... Respectfully submitted .. Patricia

Bless her Patricia. I am so sorry to hear about your daughter but sorry isn’t really what you want to hear. I hope that the culprit was caught eventually. Life is such a bitch sometimes. I hope music soothes her soul and yours also. My music is my inspiration to move, soothe my mind and tell me life is for living. It’s hard at times but I’m lucky that my husband is hooked on any sounds so we can enjoy listening together.

I’m so pleased you posted on here. It makes me feel happier. Take care and enjoy your daughter and the sounds.

Best wishes

Cheryl
