Have to share! I had such a great week even if I did not feel 100%.
Two of my husbands sisters came in from Washington State. Have not seen them in five years. One is a lot over weight and has bad knees so she could not get around well to visit relatives in town, so his other sister came up from Highland park NJ and they all stayed with us. What a good time we had. They are funny low maintenance and just a pleasure to have. I went to my doctors and Chemo. Friends and relatives dropped by to see them here. We did not fuss with anything, they clean up, order food out or we made simple things. I was not expected to do anything.
They were here two weeks and it makes you realize it is the simple things that count. I have a small four bedroom apartment and we did not get in each other's way at all.
They left yesterday and I will miss them. I do talk to them weekly but it is not as good as sitting here laughing until late at night. I will remember this visit for a long time. My sister in law said she will try to get in better shape so she can make the trip back sooner.
Just remember it is the little things that matter in life.
Hope you all had a good week also. Today I am tired and will try to sit in the sun for awhile since it is finally out..
Just had to post this.

I know it is good to forget our illness for awhile.
And laughter is the best remedy.

Hi Barbara,
It sounds like you had a wonderful visit with your family. What a refreshing, uplifting visit! Your sisters-in-law sound like the perfect house guests, not expecting you to play hostess (you are the one who needs to be taking it easy and resting) and taking care of themselves. I'm so glad you had a good time with them.
Sounds like the perfect week. It is a joy when your guests are low maintenance, go with the flow people who are happy just to be with you. Shows you how easily a potentially stressful situation (hosting during chemo) can be so restorative despite feeling physically a bit low. Sounds like you hit the jackpot with your SILs. So did I, I just didn't realize it until she stayed and sat with me the first few weeks after my diagnosis. My sister no where to be seen. It is the simple things that matter. Hope you enjoyed this wonderful weekend. My husband and I visited with friends in Ocean Grove (beach town). We stayed overnight in a charming B&B. Saturday was a beautiful day to sit on the beach. Felt like I had a week's vacation.
Yes, just to get away and not feel like we are sick is so good
I cannot wait to finish chemo and maybe go on a cruise from my town. It is the best way to travel. My daughter can drop us at the ship in 5 min pick us up when we come back. You can bring all the luggage you want no flying, we are on vacation before we leave port love it.
I’m so glad you had a wonderful visit with your SILs. I have a great SIL too...more like a sister! It is heartwarming to have loved one to laugh with ...with all the texting and FaceTime, there is still nothing like a get together! ❤️❤️❤️
so wonderful and so happy for you! my mama lost weight when my dad died and she had a bad back and bad knees her whole adult life, got skinny and no more pain from back or knees. losing weight makes such a difference, I hope your sis can lose the weight so you all can have many, many more visits! God bless you and heal us all in Jesus name, amen!
Thank you! She is the nicest person. I talk to her every week on phone.
She lives next to her sister Washington. She did not realize how bad of shape she was in until she tried to get on a plane and walk a lot at airport. She did not know how heavy she had gotten until trying to travel It is a three hour ride from her house to airport. Did not fit in seat, had to up to first class etc. she was so upset. I at least had no stairs for her to climb a walk in shower, bedroom near bathroom. That is why they stayed here. Bayonne is a small town but they have two brothers a sister in law and nieces and nephews here. They really enjoyed seeing everyone and we went out to dinner, ordered in or made something simple.
She is going to work on herself now so she can come back.
so sweet! I should take my own advice as I am a dedicated couch potato and I like it ... I remember when I was walking a few miles a day on the beach, the first few days were hard but then my energy came back. I am still babying my leg from a broken femur in January. next xrays in august so if bone is mending strong maybe then I will use it more ... it didn't line up so that's why I'm taking baby steps, it will never line up but it will heal solid said the ortho. Thank you for replying, you're lovely! God bless you! ps I have a cousin in Jersey who lives on Texas Avenue and I live in Texas <grin>
Happy to hear that you had a lovely week with family and it obviously boosted your morale ! And you are right about it being good to forget our illnesses for a while ...
I am just back from spending time in Oxfordshire with my sister- in -law and her family , who looked after my dogs with her own , so that we could attend a family wedding (my nephew) on my side of the family, which was beautiful .
Now I’m packing to spend the bank holiday weekend in London again with my daughter ( who is on internship there from her university course ) . It is my third trip down there in the last couple of months and each time we find lovely new places to visit . Lots of walking and even hired the Boris bikes in Hyde park / Kensington Palace to see the sights ! I soon forget my illness and nobody down there knows , which is the way I prefer it ! ...
Wishing all the ladies on here happier times and sorry if I have missed anyone new on here recently x
I know what you mean. My daughter lives about 40 miles from me. But I go and stay there for a day or two as often as I can. We do a little project on her house like organize a closet, have fun then go to dinner , come back watch a movie and I stay over so I do not have to drive at night. It's not far but feels like a mini vacation. Love it.
Wow, two weeks is a long time to have guests and it's really wonderful that you and your sisters-in-law do so well together! One of my brothers-in-law has been living with us for about the last 15 months and while it hasn't been a problem, it isn't a great joy for me, either. lol He's hit a rough patch and really needed a place to live.....he has been helping my husband do alot of outside work around here and they really enjoy one another. Their latest project is rebuilding a 1948 Chevvy pickup truck. I have no sisters and always wished I did. I have a really good brother and alot of women friends.....
That is awesome. There is nothing like the love and support of family!! I know I couldn't do as well without them. I am glad you had a good time and relax, enjoy the memories and catch a few rays today. That always helps boost my mood. OUr weather here in So CAL has not been that great. We call it May gray and then we go into June gloom. The marine layer socks us in and we don't generally see sun until around 3 -4.
I’m happy you had such a good time! I have no sisters but one of my sister-in-laws is like a sister to me. She came for a week when I was getting radiation everyday and gave my very stressed husband a break. She has been back once and we were able to get out and do some things. It’s so nice to have someone who knows you to be able to talk frankly to but able to have fun and laugh with as well. Laughter is the best medicine!
