Switching to verzenio - progression to liver

I’ve been on Ibrance since 2016 with bone metA only. Now being switched to verzenio along with faslodex due to liver mets. Was just wondering how anyone handled this treatment and how long did it work. Very nervous over the side effects and just having liver mets. Any insight or tricks for the side effects is greatly appreciated.

They put me on everolimus and letrozole for my recent progression to the liver, so I'm no help. I just wanted to reach out and say hello. The liver involvement has really frightened me as well.

I hope the treatment plan works wonders for you!

I did well with Ibrance and letrozole. Hopefully you will have the same results. I know it’s all frightening. I know this is a part of the rollercoaster but I don’t like it.

Sending you positive vibes!!

I haven't taken Verzenio. I do know that it is a targeted therapy like Ibrance. Let us know how you do on it. Blessings, Hannah

Hi there

I’m just on faslodex only as my liver mets increased on Afinitor/exemastane...was initially on Ibrance/letrazole prior to that

I find I have worse pain since I’ve been on faslodex but that could be totally coincidental...apart from that I’m not too bad but obviously I can’t comment on verzenio

Good luck

Hi, Barb! I recently started on Faslodex myself, since the trial drug I had been on for 14 months failed and my scans showed significant progression to the ribs. I had pain in my ribs prior to starting Faslodex, but it is now much worse and I have to maintain steady dosing of Advil and Tylenol to beat it back. My med onc's NP also prescribed lidocaine patches for me for when the pain gets really bad, but thankfully an increase in my Advil dosing seems to be keeping it under control.

Hi dianne

I was taking those meds with codeine as well but they don’t keep the pain at bay now I’m on faslodex...I’m very miserable as a result so now taking morphine slow release with top ups of codeine when needed

All these drugs we take have joint pain as a side effect...my pain is usually in the same area where I had a fractured vertebrae two years ago...I’ve accepted that it’s never going to improve and this now is how my life will be...on hideous pain relief drugs

Hi, Barb!Thank you.for taking the time to reply. I wouldn't give up yet. You might switch to a drug in the future that doesn't have the same side effects. I appreciate knowing that there is someone who is experiencing the same pain on Faslodex as me and hope that you will have a better day.

Take care!

It’s interesting that you’ve been given another CDK 4/6 inhibitor after the first failed. I wasn’t given that option, but the first didn’t work at all for me. Really hoping this combo goes well for you.

It’s interesting isn’t it...I was given Afinitor after Ibrance failed...waste of time in my opinion as I was only on Afinitor for 5 months and had quite a lot of progression...oncologists seem to follow different protocols sometimes without considering the individual

A lot seems to depend on oncologists’ hunches from their own experience. Ribociclib (sorry can’t remember the brand name) & Faslodex failed spectacularly for me with progression and CA 15-3 through the roof after 3 months. My oncologist was visibly disappointed. I’ve been on Everolimus (Afinitor) & Exemestane since November. We had a discussion about whether to go with this combination which “may work” or go straight to IV chemo, which would definitely slow progression down. It has worked so far for me CA 15-3 has come down, though seems to be levelling off now and CT shows stability. I think there are DNA tests which would predict what should work but biopsies and waiting for results have their own risks. There are guidelines in most countries but I think oncologists interpret these differently. On a different note, I have been very glad to be on oral therapy during the pandemic. xx
