I just received my scan results. 1 10mm lesion was discovered on my liver.
I am ER+Her2Negative with multiple lesions in my spine. I have been battling for 8 years and gone through about 7 or more different treatments for these Mets in my spine.
I was wondering if there is anyone who could give me some hope. Have you had any liver Mets and how were they treated? I see my Oncologist on Wednesday the 22nd and will find out how to proceed. The prognosis I read online seems so glim.
Anyone out there being treated for liver Mets and had good results?
I pray for all of us warriors who are battling. 🙏🏻

Hello DinNorCal, I have multiple bone lesions and a small lesion was found on my liver after two stable years on Letrozole and Ibrance. I was prescribed Capecitabine and have been taking that for three years now with very good results. The liver lesion has completely disappeared and the bone mets are stable. The consultant has written 'complete remission' on my latest review. Capecitabine has some side effects but I find them manageable and hope to continue on this drug till it stops working. Please don't give up hope - there are many options out there for us. Good luck! Gwyneth
Hello, Thank you for responding. That is wonderful that Capecitabine is working so well for you. I was on Capcitabine for about 9 months with some success, but then had progression. At that time I only had bone Mets.
I had multiple liver lesions and bone mts and the are disappearing from my live. Ben’s are stable I was completely freaked out when told about liver involvement but I’m better! Capecitabine works! Wishing you the best!
In 2022, several lesions were measured in both lobes of my liver. Biopsies indicated that they were cancerous. I had no treatment specifically for them as I had already been taking cancer meds since 2019 .
I currently have a number of cancer metastases in various organs. However, ribociclib and letrozole have presumably kept all of them from growing for the past several years. I know this because my cancer antigens remain in the normal range. These are checked every three months when I have lab work done.
As long as my various cancers do not grow larger, I expect to die from old age. I am now 79, and have been taking cancer meds for more than 5 years.
I forgot to mention that I worried less about my liver after I did some research and realized that it is a relatively large organ with two lobes. Apparently, a lobe may regenerate when damaged. We can get by with only one lobe! Depending on your age, you might consider having the cancerous portion removed. If your oncologist doesn't seem to offer you alternatives, seek another opinion. Unfortunately, most physicians do not stay up to date on research. Best of luck with all this!
Apart from chemo/immunotherapy therapy drugs, the liver can be treated with radio frequency ablation and other radiotherapy methods, as suitable to the situation. When I had recurrence in the liver there were too many mets so radio frequency ablation wasn't an option.
I'm in the UK and hence use the Cancer Research UK website for information along with, of course, my oncologist consultant.
Thanks so much for your information. I will be asking my Oncologist about the radio frequency ablations as I have read about them online. Since at this point I only have 1 lesion I am hoping the RFA or microwave ablation may be an option.
I'm so sorry you received this news but posts from others on this site sound hopeful. I hope your doctor gives you a good solution. Stay strong and positive. Sending you hugs and prayers.
I had 3 liver lesions and my interventional radiologist went in and successfully ablated all of them. Ask your oncologist for a referral. Best wishes. ❤️
I’ve had liver lesions since my original MBC diagnosis 3 1/2 years ago. I also had two lesions on my spine and one rib affected.
I had a choice of starting on letro/palbo or doing FEC chemo first followed by the letro/palbo combo so I went for the chemo. I figured some high test wouldn’t hurt to get things started.
I have CT scans every three months and each scan shows improvement in my liver. Originally I had three larger lesions around 2cm each, plus multiple cm sized ones. Now they barely see any of them on my scan.
There’s hope. Stay positive 😊. Good luck with your appointment this week.
hi! I have had multiple liver mets, all treated successfully with gamma knife radiation. Gamma has been a miracle worker for me. The only side effect was some “doable… keep moving…maybe a nap” fatigue and that was after they treated 5 lesions in succession. I will gratefully grab gamma treatment if possible.
Please see if you can consult with radiation oncology and see if gamma is an option for you! Glad to give you any info/support I can.
All best wishes and positive vibes coming your way
I wish a bit that I had pushed more forcefully about whether this was relevant for me when my liver mets first arose. I have a vague memory that perhaps they were small but too deep. Anyway, sadly now I have s lot and they're getting bigger
Hello,I've had RFA to liver 3 times now & it resolved the mets for a few years. It has since come back in the liver & I'm on chemo at present with scans due at the end of the month. (I'm 17yrs MBC de novo)
I have had extensive bone met since Dec 2015. I too am E+ Hers2 neg. The breast cancer went into my liver March 2022. It has not been a big problem at all. The meds are stronger with more side effects to treat the cancer in liver. My cancer in liver still does not affect my daily life. I have normal liver counts on my regular blood tests. After 6 years on Ibrance they then gave Immunotherapy for 4 months It didn’t work Then I went on Piqray It worked for one year Then pactaxil it worked 6 mo Then on new drug….orserdu this one didn’t work for me at all! First drug to make things worse! 3 months on it Then put on Xeloda This one has been working for me for 1.5 years I have had best and longest results on this one My liver is quiet I don’t have aggressive breast cancer I think it’s about a 12 in aggressiveness which is on low side of medium aggressiveness Not sure on that It’s been 9 years since the discussion on aggressiveness But I know it’s not considered aggressive
Bubblystream, thanks for responding. Our journeys sound about the same only I have not been on IV chemo yet (only chemo was Xeloda). I am now on Verzenio for almost 6 months, and it only slowed growth in bone Mets. Which was ok with me, because it kept me off IV chemo. Now the liver lesion has appeared so I’m fearful my only option with bone Mets and a new liver lesion is Taxol. I have to do a lot of thinking and praying about that decision.
Thanks so much for sharing your journey and I hope Xeloda works much longer for you. It was one of the easiest treatments for me and worked almost a year
You already have a lot of good answers but I just want to say one thing: don’t ever read prognosis! They are based on old data, and most importantly, every person is different.
I had liver mets but for a different breast cancer - PD/L1 positive TNBC. Initially I had 1 met and this was treated with a microwave ablation. It didn’t work and I had further progression in the liver, so I was treated with Pembrolizumab (a PD/1 blocker). I then had an immunotherapy adverse event, where my immune system attacked healthy organs, and had to stop treatment. But by then I had just 2 small areas of tumour left in the liver, thought to be dormant. I had a second microwave ablation on these and that was successful, I have been in remission since early 2024.
for what it’s worth my rule when researching online is to read treatment options and never prognosis. The stats are outdated and aggregated so it’s not helpful. That helps to keep stress managed.
I have had liver lesions for about 3.5 years of my 5.5 year journey. They have waxed and waned, but mostly behaved. I am now on Enhertu which is working very well. Are you her2 low? If so Enhertu is an option and another similar drug was just approved
I looked into ablation and wasn’t a candidate at that moment, but my oncologist said we can check again. There’s also a new treatment called histropicy or something like that that uses radio waves to smash liver tumors. Not sure I spelled it right but close enough.
I have not had any tumors biopsied to see about low her2. I am thinking this tumor may be biopsied to see if I am eligible for Enhertu. I see my Oncologist today.
The Her2 test is only bloodwork! Or even previous biopsy material. I had mine retested last year and found to be Her2 low, though unfotunately today I just foubnd out the Enhertu has laready stopped working after only 3 - 4 months
