Well my October Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness/fundraising campaign finished yesterday. I raised a total of £965 (and someone's now said they're giving me £35 to round it up to £1,000) plus loads of donated £20 and £30 gift vouchers plus 35 bags full of pamper goodies. I didnt quite manage the 50 miles of walking but did manage 42 - the fund raising wasnt dependant on the walk and the original aim was to get me out doing more exercise so with 42 miles under my belt, I'd say I've achieved that; so not gonna beat myself up for the 8 measly miles and just going to be proud of everything else I achieved!
Original post - Doing my bit and raising awareness of MBC as I don't think people fully understand it. Pledged to walk 50 miles during October and fund raising to buy health and beauty treatments to donate to local chemo unit - just to make someone's day a little brighter 😆. Gift drop no.1 is on 17th when I next go myself which will tie in nicely with 18th Oct which is world BC awareness day. Gift drop no.2 will be at the end of Oct when the campaign ends.
The idea came to me a couple of weeks ago and I set a target of £500 thinking well, if I dont reach it that's fine. Unbelievable support means I've already smashed that target as well as loads of donated £30 gift vouchers from a number of salons. Im really blown away by people's generosity.
Kicked it off officially on Sunday with a 3 mile walk - in torrential conditions too - but that didnt deter me and I had some friends and family to keep me company - bless them all for still showing up. Despite the inclement weather, spirits were high and it was kind of fun splashing through puddles in our wellies.
So 3 miles done, wish me luck for the remaining 47. To echo Sandra's inspirational quote - we ca do this 💪👊.

I hope you are able to achieve your goals and help your local chemotherapy unit. You did well braving the recent torrential downpours! Let's hope the rest of October is dry for you.
Thanks Sophie, so do I. Done another couple of walks and it's dried out a bit now, although it's got quite chilly now. Better than being soaked though, at least I can wrap up warm. xx
Thankyou. We have objectives at work around fund raising too so I thought I may as well take on something that means something to me so kill two birds with one stone so to speak. We were in high spirits despite the downpour. xx
You and your family / friends look to have enjoyed the day ... despite the horrendous weather on Sunday ! ☔️( when even the men’s world cycle event in Harrogate had to change it’s route last minute ! )
And what a lovely idea ! ...a while back I received a “goody bag” at the chemo ward ...I think it may have been sponsored by the company “Forever” and it had products like lip balm and shampoo in it ...and it did cheer me up on the day! I now still use /order on Amazon one of the products as I liked it so much ... “Aloe ever-shield deodorant stick”, as I wasn’t keen on using deodorants after my axillary Lymph node clearance . So i’m sure you will make someone’s day ! Well done 😘
Hi Teddielottie, it was like being kids again playing out in the rain lol. I think by the end though, we'd all had enough - novelty had worn off and we were ready for home :). Reassuring to hear you enjoyed receiving the freebies. We're a bit of a suspicious bunch here in Yorkshire - I can imagine them all eyeing me up wondering what I'm up to lol. I'll have to write FREE in big capital letters hahaha. Thanks. Josie xx
What an inspiration Josie.
I know how busy you are with family and work, and yet there you are helping others, and raising awareness.
I really hope October has some dry days for you to do those 47 miles!!
Fantastic and I am sure much appreciated at the chemo unit. I know when I was getting infusions I really appreciated all the support from donors and volunteers. Good luck achieving your goal. Is there a way you can accept donations from the U.S.
ah thanks for your kind words. I hope they like their hampers, what's not to like really, we all like a nice freebie don't we :). xx That's very kind of you about the donation, I honestly wasn't touting but I can link my Just Giving page for you, I imagine it would just convert from US dollars to GBP? Thanks again, take care. xxx
Great Josie. We have a community function going on here my daughter started in support of Bc month. She had pink t shirts made up I will take pics soon as I can and the whole shopping center where she works is coming into it. I used to do fund raisers for years every October but it’s been a while. To see her take it on is truly a legacy I love.
Finishing up docs tomorrow then going to Pennsylvania with my oldest Jenni for some respite time. I love the mountains and air up there and need to embrace my thunder for next round which is port/iv chemo.
ah sounds like you're an expert on the fund raising front Frances. How nice that your daughter's picked up the reins. It's lovely when everyone gets involved isn't it. I can't believe the support I've had. It all started with a tiny seed of an idea and has just grown.
Have a lovely break, I'm sure the mountain air will do you a world of good. I love nature, I think it soothes the soul. Good luck with the treatment. Let us all know how you get on. xx Best wishes xx Josie
The dogs were so cute but they really weren't happy at being out in the rain lol. They kept whining and at one point nearly set off a stampede of cows hahahaha. They were happy to get back in the car at the end and get dried off.
Thanks for your kind words. I've done a couple more smaller walks - it's dried up a bit so trying to do at least 1.5 miles a day - fingers crossed it keeps dry now.
Sister/warrior May God bless you to persevere, and finish the walk. This is such an important/worthy cause. I think all women feel better when they look good, or at least when we believe we are looking good. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. What ever makes you feel good do it, as long as it is not hurting anybody else. XoXoXo
