Anyone out there with recurrent non-metastatic breast cancer?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I hope you can help me. I was first diagnosed in 2009 with stage 2 IDC(invasive ductal carcinoma) in my right breast. Had a lumpectomy, chemo (ACT) and 6 weeks of radiation. In March 2013, I found another lump in the same breast. Had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. In October 2013 found another lump in the same area! Had that lump removed. In July 2019 had yet another lump removed from the same area. I spent 10 years on different aromatase inhibitors: tamoxifen, letrozole, and anastrozole. Now on faslodex and ibrance. I just wondered if there was anyone else like me out there.

Hi there

Sorry to hear your problems

I don’t understand why you’re taking Ibrance...this drug is for metastatic breast cancer and if you’re not metastatic it’s putting a lot of nasty side effects on your body if not necessary

The ladies on here all have mbc so maybe you’ll get better answers from some of them...I’m sorry not to be more helpful

All the best

Thanks Barbteeth. I had the same question about ibrance. I was told there were no statistics for someone like me and they were trying to come up with a treatment plan that could work. I am hopeful that someone else has experience with this and can give advice.

Hi there. This community is for MBC people, so you wont find early stage people here. We would give anything to be early stage. If you Google early stage breast cancer survivors you will find innumerable blogs and websites to follow.

Many people who were once early stage and then told they were "cancer free" after treatment and for years thought they were, only to then be diagnosed with stage iv. See the Holly Kitchen video. She had breast cancer when she was younger, had chemo, radiation and both breasts removed. She was told she was cancer free only to find a few years later that she had breast cancer in her liver. Many of the women I know from other forum boards had cancer years before and did all the treatment and were told it was gone only to now be stage iv. So apparently there are dormant cancer cells that sleep and then for whatever reason, wake up years later to wreck havoc. The fact that her cancer keeps coming back so quickly must be scary nonetheless. Early stage unfortunately is no longer a guarantee that it won't return and be a stage iv diagnosis.

Hi, I have heard of this before but not on this site. Have you found the health unlocked ‘Breast cancer Haven’ site? It’s a breast cancer charity in the uk and most of the contributors there have or have experienced primary breast cancer. It might be worth asking your question there as there are a lot of experiences discussed.

Hi

Sorry you’ve had these reoccurrences. I was first diagnosed with stage 2. The

Treatment would be radiation and a homone inhibitor. After further testing I am stage 4 with spinal lesions. I’m thankful my doctors were so deliberate to look elsewhere so that now I take Ibrance and

Letrozole. Day 3 and staying positive.

Praying for you.

Hi there

Sorry to hear you are having to join us.

Saw your other post and wanted to reply by saying, yes you can live a relatively normal life on these tablets.

I am still a relative newcomer, on my 5th cycle. I am still working in my job. I am feeling better since being on the medications, and enjoy pretty much all of the things I did 6 months ago.

Welcome
