Neulasta

Started my first chemo yesterday and am dreading my Neulasta going off today. Took Claritin last night and this morning to help with the supposed bone pain that will come. I’m dreading any chest pain or breathing problems that may come as a side effect of this drug. Anyone else have good/bad experience with Neulasta?

It went off this afternoon. I was so scared to hear the beep, beep. It stoped now and the medicine is in my body. Now I have to wait. I’m glad my mom is staying with me for support. She’s also a breast cancer survivor 🙂

I used Neulasta after each chemo I had( 8 of them) I didn't have any side effects that I could say was related to it...just the chemo in general. One time it went off when I was getting undresses...before the time was up and I had to go back into the hospital to get it replaced....but other than that...no problems. Good Luck!!

Thank you Macor, so far I just notice knee pain but that may not be the Neulasta maybe it’s the chemo taking it’s effects on my muscles/joints.

I will say I still take cymbalta for the neuropathy I still have in my hands and feet from the chemo. Chemo does definitely our bones and joints I'm afraid for quite a while. Good luck to you!!

I also used the Neulasta auto pump during my chemo and I also found the bone pain to be uncomfortable but not horrible. I found that I had to try to get ahead of it and that acupuncture and walking a lot also helped. I hope the Claritin helps your symptoms. Hang in there!

Acupuncture as an adjunct complementary therapy is known to help with blood counts. Lifestyle changes help too - what we eat, how we move and how we learn to handle stress. I am the founder/president of cancer nonprofit Annie Appleseed Project. Speaking about these ideas and more, at SHARE on Oct 16.

I remember my Neulasta shots, not a fun experience; you're doing a smart thing taking the Claritin before hand. I did not have any breathing issues or chest pain, hope that the Claritin helped.

The bone pain did become intolerable on Monday and I had to phone in to see if I could take an Advil. They said yes. So far it’s helped but I’m a big chicken and have taken it it once only today. I was feeling so down earlier because my body felt like it was 90 not 40 but right now I feel ok. Of course with Cancer things change quickly.

I didn't have any problem with neulasta. Hopefully you will have an easy time of it.

Update: so the Neulasta did give me bone/muscle pain. It lasted for 3 days, I also got a fever on one of those days but not sure if it was the Neulasta. For my next round of chemo I will be more prepared and have Advil on hand. My doctor said I could take it for the bone pain. After the 3 days I woke up and had my old body back, no pain. What a relief that was for me👍🏼

I can definitely relate to your fears and pain and I am so sorry that you had to experience this. In 2012 I received my Neulasta, given to me as an injection the day after chemo. At that time, having an injection administered by the oncologist was my only option.

My doctor never told me about taking Claritin. I used Advil which did not help my pain. My only help came from placing heating pads on my aching calves. That is where my pain was. I am happy that you had no pain after your 3 days

I suffered through them. All my treatments had delayed response. I decided to push on with the help of Norco and made it through with all excellent bloodworks aside from needing extra Magnesium which was put in at my chemo treatment. I also took Ibuprofen..you can take them both.

My Onc said it's like having a baby..pain and suffering, but when it's over you'll forget how bad it was. That was true and no treatments were delayed.🤗

YES! But by taking Claritin the day before neurlasta shot the terrible bone pain was gone. Used Tylenol too.

Funny you mentioned Claritin my doctor just suggested I take this with Lestrozol but thinking to go back to anastrazol with the Claritin. But planning to ask doctor which one is best to take with the Claritin. I was getting the same aches and pain with lestrazol that I had with A so that’s why I thought to switch back and the dosage with A was less then the 2.5 mg with L. I tell you it’s been a task trying to regulate the pain that comes with taking the meds. Smh!

Hope Claritin helps. I’m wondering if calcium, vitamin D, k2 and magnesium might help too.

I had to go on hydrocodone during chemo to deal with all the pain. It was the only thing that helped.
