Elsewhere on this site people have mentioned "slow release mirapexin". What is it? The reason I ask is that I presently take 3 x 0.088mg "normal" mirapexin before going to sleep and for a few months I have had an undisturbed night. Now it's wearing off in the small hours. It did this before, which was one of the reasons my sleep physician suggested the Neupro patch. Now my GP won't let me have that... Does the slow release version act all day like the patch? Another worry I have is that I face a long car journey to our holiday soon and am not looking forward to hours stuck in a car with RLS leg kicking hell. If I can't get slow release mirapexin I could double my dose, taking tabs in the morning but am worried about overdosing. Then again is overdosing possible? Someone else recently posted that the upward dose for RLS sufferers was a Parkinson's dosage. That really worries me... Can any of you advise? Cheers, a confused Tpebop.

I cant help with the "slow release mirapexin", i only know of one person who takes this. It isnt in the RLS meds to take, as far as i know.

The dose you are taking of the "normal" mirapexin is not the highest dose you can take for RLS, if you read the leaflet. It says, 4 tabs of 0.088 is .35 which is ok and it also says, 6 tabs of 0.088 is .54, that is the highest dose for RLS. So, if you are only taking 3x0.088 you have room to use more. The only thing i would say is, if you take them in the morning to be carefull they dont make you sleepy, not good if you are driving, and taking a higher dose can for some give more side effects, something else to think about, the leaflet also gives a list of those. Read the leaflet Tpebob... :)

hi, i take the slow release one, i take one at bedtime (10-11 ) and it works well, the odd occasion when im stressed or overtired, i might have a bit of a blip, im taking 1.05 mgs, dont know of anyone else taking it, Its made by Boehringer Ingelheim International... and the dosage is written .. pramipexole MR 1.05MG (1.5MG) Thats the pharmacy label, but on the box, the med is written as Mirapexin compresse a rilascio prolongato... thats all i can tell you hope it helps, i havent been able to find out the highest dose allowed for rls

Thanks Elisse and Niah. I really must go to my GP and sort this out. However both of you have been very helpful. I've had a quick look at the references to the slow release pramipexole (generic name for mirapexin/e) on the net and it seems usually used for treatment of Parkinson's. Niah, if it works for you great! Elisse, thanks for doing the maths for me! You've come up with the solution to the holiday travel. Fortunately (in this case) I don't drive so won't have to worry about the tiredness side effects. I could take more tablets in the morning, have a kick free journey and (when I'm not navigating) a sleep... Niah: does the slow release mirapexine last all day? This is becoming crucial for me as my day time RLS seems to be getting worse, so if I can't have the Neupro patch I could argue for the slow release mirapexine... Thansk again, Tpebop.

yes it does

most of our meds are "pd" meds anyway

Good luck asking your doctor for the slow release mirapexin, as i too have looked everywhere on the net for info on that med and have only ever found reference for it to be used for PD.

Replying for Niah, yes that med last all day like the patch as it slowly releases the mirapexin during the night and day.

Good luck with your journey, and just keep an eye on how many tabs of mirapexin you take.

hi, hon. It is used for RLS over here in the US a LOT. Lots of people in the big yahoo RLS group are taking it now; so they don;t have to dose up at 3 am when the RLS breaks through.

Oh, and if your RLS is getting worse during the day, you could be experiencing augmentation, so when you take the mirapexin during the day, it probably wont last long before you find you need to take more to get relief. If and when that happens, then you need to find another medication for your RLS....or have a drug holiday...
