Suboxone and Horizant

so my hubby was taking methadone with 1200 Horizant. He stopped the meth because he was having panic attacks, insomnia etc. the doc now put him on suboxone. Are the two drugs together creating the mess. Maybe opioids aren’t for him. However the 1200 mg of Horizant was hit or miss also

It's just the opioid not the combination.

I had severe panic attacks for the first time in my life on Oxycontin. Then when I switched to Buprenorphine, it happened again. I'd already been advised to add a small dose of pregabalin to stop the panic attacks on Oxycontin so I started a small dose again. In my case 50mg pregabalin helped within 2 days.

In your husband's case- the horizant should have acted as a sedating counter effect to the methadone.

Did methadone stop his RLS? Has suboxone stopped his RLS? At the right dose they should cover all symptoms.

He should not need horizant as well.

If suboxone stops RLS, he should slowly reduce horizant and ask for something to stop the panic attacks. As his body adjusts to the opioid, the panic attacks will reduce.

Trazodone or Bupropion might be possibilities.

Is your husband on any other medications that could be stopping the methadone/horizant from working? And is his serum ferritin above 200ųg?

I have been on Suboxone for around 6 months. It completely got rid of my RLS symptoms, but over time I developed severe anxiety and depression and it is awful. My neurologist is now weaning me off of Suboxone and going to just Pregabalin. I feel symptoms already, after only a few days. I’m beside myself and due to fly to Hawaii for a long awaited trip. What should I do? I’m tired, anxious and so depressed right now. Help!

I am so sorry.Buprenorphine would be my top recommendation.

Have you tried other opioids? Codeine 60mg, oxycodone 10mg several times a day?

They might not cause depression.

Pregabalin takes 3 weeks to take full effect at effective dose.

For the severe anxiety- pregabalin added to Buprenorphine stopped mine within a few days. I didn't get depression though.Maybe if you go back on Buprenorphine and add 50 to 75mg pregabalin- it might stop the anxiety and therefore reduce depression.

Or your doctor could add trazodone or wellbutrin??
