Horizant cost

How much are you guys paying for horizant? I take 1500mg per day for 5 years. I’m on Medicare and it doesn’t cover it and prob never will. Mine just went up AGAIN. My doc used to help out with giving me enough samples to cover half the month but she went without a rep the entire year last year. She just got a new rep but is not getting enough to help out. We are gonna try lyrica out again or the generic for it. I tried it before horizant and couldn’t take it. Too much brain fog or the feeling I was extremely stupid. I was working back then and there was no way I could keep taking it and have my career (numbers) so we tried horizant and for the most part it’s been great! I just can’t afford it anymore. I don’t qualify for the savings card because I have Medicare. Makes perfect sense to me too. NOT!

Goodrx offers a 14% discount or $453.37 for 30 tablets. However that's for 600 mg. It is ridiculous that it so expensive. 1500 mg is a large amount. A study has shown that 1,200 mg once daily provided no additional benefit compared with the 600-mg dose. My suggestion would be to try gabapentin. It may very well also cause brain fog, but would be worth a try. If you do, take it in divided doses of 600 mg 2 hours apart since it is not very well absorbed above 600 mg.

I can’t take gabby for more than the brain fog. The last time I tried it my legs swelled so bad I looked like a giant thigh down to my toes. My skin looked like it would pop if it were touched.I take 600mg in the morning and 900mg at bedtime. Yes, it’s very expensive. My doc used to give me samples for half the month and I paid for the other half. She hasn’t had a rep though in over a year so no samples. The pharmaceutical company offers a discount card but I don’t qualify for it because I have Medicare even though Medicare doesn’t cover it.

If medication is costing you that much isn't it worth the effort to investigate dieary causes of your RLS?

I don’t have RLS really. I had three failed lumbar fusions that caused extreme nerve damage. After my first surgery I was left with three of 6 screws that had splintered out the sides of the vertebrae they were screwed into. Nerves wrapped around the screws and it wasn’t until 18 months later I found a surgeon that would even touch my spine. She fixed the screw protrusions but the nerve damage was done. So maybe I have RLS caused by a bad surgeon.

I’m on Horizant but only 600mg per day. I also live in Japan but I definitely don’t pay that much for it. It’s partly covered by health insurance but even if I had to pay the full amount I it wouldn’t come to what you pay. That’s ridiculous. How can medicine values vary so much per country!!So I’m not much help on the money side sorry but I do agree that you’re probably taking too much and it might not be working for you. Have you tried cutting down a little and see if there’s any difference?

I’m currently cutting down on my 600mg, and I cut the tablets in half even though I was told not to. I found when I missed a dose or just took half the dose I felt terrible but by cutting the tablets in half its a much easier.

It would be horrible if you were paying for all that and it wasn’t actually working that much for you so I do recommend cutting down a little and see if there’s any big difference. 💚

After 18 calls to the pharmacy today I finally got a call back. Of course they were so sorry they debuted my bank account for the horizant even after I told them to just hold off. My doctor put me on pregabalin today so I took my last 600mg horizant this morning for a week. She has me on 100mg three time a day to start she said. This only costs $7 so I hope it works. I’ve just been in so much pain for the last week or two. I stay at a 7 or 8 on their pain scale. So long as I can stay there I can tolerate it. However, I’ve been pushing 10+ and that’s no fun. My legs are starting to ache now. Guess I will see just how much the horizant helped. I will keep my progress posted over the week with the new drug.

I do not take Horizant so have never tried this site. They claim to have Horizant for $40.00 per month plus shipping. "No insurance required. All patients are eligible."

Hope this helps.

Yeh well you can only use those savings cards if you don’t have any insurance at all. It doesn’t matter that my insurance doesn’t cover it and has never covered it. Makes zero sense to me.

Hello. Yes, I have had great success with Lyrica. I was a bit hesitant, but was in so much pain, discomfort, agitation with neuropathy which seemed to then exacerbate the RLS, My neurosurgeon who treats my compressed disc's recommended it strongly I started out I believe 75 mg. Then increased it then increased it again. So now I take 225 mg. And I will tell you it was a huge help. I now rarely experience the neuropathy pain episodes and my RLS has calmed down alot. It is just a huge help and I am so thankful. Hope it continues. Like you I have not experienced bad brain fog. Unless I was always foggy. Haha. I take lyrica at noon and it does make me a bit drowsy. I think if you had to work and drive home you might take it later in the day.

I hope this helps. Any questions let me know. I wish you well. RLS is a tough one to deal with. Unless you have experienced it, you just don't get it nor the severity of it.

You are so right about having to experience nerve pain or RLS to know what each of us go through on a hourly basis. I’m gonna try the pregabalin again. The generic for lyrica. Lyrica is too expensive for me and because I’m on Medicare I can’t use any of the savings card s from the drug company. So stupid, one would think it is those of us who can no longer work because of our spine and nerves, SHOULD get to use them. So I started this morning taking 100mg 3x a day for two weeks to see if the thoughts of dying pass. Im strong enough mentally to not do harm to myself so I wasn’t having “suicidal” thoughts. I was having flashes of me dead or died or even dying. I took the 100mg 3x day for one week and had none of the thoughts it was when we increased the dose to 150mg 3x a day the death flashes started so I wanted to try the 100mg for two weeks just to see was it the higher dose or pregabalin itself. It’s much cheaper. 2 weeks of my dose was only $11!

Thanks for reaching out and sorry it took so long to reply I really forgot about signing up for this sight. Oops 😬
