Cure your RLS with castor oil

I have been suffering with RLS for nearly 45 years. I am now 75 and it is getting worse. I used to have several days between RLS attacks. Now I have one every night. I’ve been taking carbidopa/levodopa for 2 years. Helped so much but I believe augmentation is kicking in. Where before I had to take 1 to relieve symptoms, it now takes 2. Very depressing. I was watching a YouTube video on castor oil and how many health benefits it has. I decided to rub the oil on my feet at night before bed to help with my neuropathy. It worked. Have not had any pain in my feet since I started. But the biggest shocker was that from the very first night, my RLS has stopped. I’m on one week with no medication and no RLS. What a relief.

I hope this helps others who are suffering from this awful neurological disorder.

Wow. Never heard of someone stopping levodopa & not having severe withdrawals. Levodopa hasn't been prescribed on a nighly basis for RLS for over a decade, because of the very high rate of augmentation. If no meds & castor oil has helped you, brilliant! I hope it continues.

I must agree with Eryl!! I have been off all medication (2 months) including supplements (3 weeks). I have had a "Genetic Methylation" test done and am waiting to hear what my body lacks and will then take the supplements to correct it. I still have mild RL at night but nothing in the day or evening while sitting. Its a case of my brain having to "adjust/heal" from the decades of the use of DA's. Certain fruits/plants, vegetable oils, sugar, grains and carbohydrates are the main cause of inflammation!! Our foods are no longer wholesome/natural. There are so many additives, colourings and genetically modified products added to our foods that our bodies cannot methylate. I have read many articles on the research done and the testimonies of people who have had chronic illnesses/syndromes and had huge success in their healing.

I am not here to advocate that I know it all but our bodies where created "perfectly". It is us who are poisiinng ourselves with all the "man made junk" in our foods!!!

I had absolutely no withdrawals and I never had a doctor tell me I would. I had 6 beautiful days of peace. Didn’t last. My RLS came back but not every day and not nearly as bad.

I agree with Joolsg. I find it very strange that it worked. Please let us know after a few weeks if it still is working.

Ordered Castor Oil from Amazon about a month ago...using it every early evening on my feet and legs....partial improvement but the other night had to use Therapulse as well on both legs. My new problem is that I've been diagnosed with bowel cancer and my stress levels are high. I'm 77 and had endometrial cancer 25 years ago...So, castor oil may help but not stopped it...

Any particular brand to try, or is castor oil castor oil? Great you've had benefit from it :-)

You need the unrefined castor oil. Amazon do it. I’ve been putting it on my face to help with wrinkles 🤷‍♀️ will try my feet and legs now.

A little goes a long way!

Make sure it’s organic and cold pressed. 6 nights now with no RLS. Seems almost too good to be true.

Hello: I don’t have the results I got in the beginning, but it certainly has improved. I just had two nights in a row with no RLS at all. Nothing ever seems work for me consistently.

The reason why castor oil worked for you is probably because castor oils has anti inflammatory properties (inflammation being the cause of your rls). If you keep causing the inflammation castor oil probably will not work as well in future and it probably won't give much relief to people who have a higher level of inflammation than you. The inflammation is probably due to foods in your diet. You can google 'foods athat cause inflammation' and you'll probably notice quite a few which are a part of the Standard American Diet. The anwser is to eat real food and avoid processed food.

can u link to the evidence/research for RLS being caused by inflammation please? Oh & off top of your head which area in body does inflammation stem from, thanks

Eryl profile image
Eryl in reply toSearcher55

My evidence is that I've eliminated my own RLS by rigorously driving down my systemic inflammation. Systemic inflammation occurs in all parts of the body, It affects everyone differently, when it happens in the nerves it can cause RLS, fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety etc but for some people its effects can be felt in the breathing with increased asthma or copd and in some peope it happens worst in the cardiovascular system it is partly hypertension.

Systemic inflammation is most often caused by the consumption of refined seed oils (commonly called 'vegetable oil') and high insulin levels caused by the consumption of carbs, especially refined carbs. Systemic inflammation can also be caused by infections.

I have an excellent diet. No seed oils. Only organic cold pressed olive oil. No alcohol. But I agree. It is inflammation. What do you do to decrease inflammation.

Eryl profile image
Eryl in reply toDeborahok

The only fruit that I eat with any regularty is blueberries and avocados which are high in antioxidands. In the evenings the only thighs I drink are green or chamomile tea. I also take suplements of vitamin E and A.

I only know about the inflammation from responses on this site. I don’t have a link.

Since the castor oil is working you can come off the carbidopa/levodopa which is no longer prescribed for RLS since it leads to augmentation faster than ropinirole or pramipexole. Which size are you on?

I would get an inexpensive jewelry scale on Amazon ($11 ) that measures down to .01 gram and shave off a bit of the tablet and measure it. Then reduce by that amount every 2 weeks. If the castor oil continues to work hopefully you won't have increased symptoms. If so you may need to reduce more slowly or with a smaller amount or if not you may be able to reduce more quickly. Wait until the increased symptoms from each reduction has settled before going to the next one. You may suffer and may need a low dose opioid temporarily to help out with the symptoms especially as you near the end. Some have used kratom or cannabis temporarily to help. But in the long run, you will be glad you came off it.

I have had no issues whatsoever in just stopping the levodopa. I was never advised to wean off. I’m going on almost 2 weeks and even though it has not disappeared like the first 6 days, its still so much better that I havnt needed to take any meds.

Very quickly, love this post and will try it on my husband. To all, please look up the Edgar Cayce remedies using castor oil. My mom is going to a naturopath doc for her long term stomach issues and she recommends using a castor oil pack every day on her stomach. Edgar Cayce recommended the packs for many ailments and had great success. And yes, please, lets all post back after we try this - super encouraging!

Whoops - I thought the article read Cod Liver Oil not Castor Oil & I've just bought the biggest bottle I could find off the former- Now I have to order Castor Oil as well as getting through 300ml of CLO as well- duh!!!!

I went and got some castor oil the day after Deborahok posted this. My RLS is mild and hasn’t recurred yet so I can’t answer to that. But I have had PLMS set off by seed oils a few times and can say with certainty castor oil doesn’t help my PLMS. But I am so excited to have a giant bottle because it sure sounds like it helps a lot of things (wrinkles, thyroid, eyelash growth, constipation, dry eyes, grocery shopping-just kidding…but so many things) and my feet have never been softer! I love it!

Update: started castor oil on my hubby's feet about 2 weeks ago for his RLS. I rub it all over his feet and ankles (bilateral ankle replacements which caused his probable neuropathy) when I put him down for bed. Its made a big difference! He used to get up 3 to 4 times a night to walk around cause his legs and feet hurt so much and he now he only sits up once a night! Great for both os us! The castor oil has helped his neurology and his RLS at least 70 to 80%! I highly recommend everyone try it. NOTE: buy organic cold pressed oil, keep it away from light and heat. Also, we used it to do liver detox and help with constipation by using it with the organic flannel cotton wraps and wearing the oil and wraps for an hour or more. We just started going to a naturopath who recommended that. Good luck everyone

I've never understood how putting something on one's legs or feet helps what is essentially a problem in the brain. I'm not disbelieving of your experience, I just don't understand how it works.

Update since I posted 2 months ago. I put castor oil every night on my HwP's feet. However, last week I did not put it on for 2 consecutive nights as a test. His restless legs were the worst its been since I started this! Both nights he work me up with his legs moving all over. I definitely know the castor oil is working as his RLS has definitely calmed down by a large percentage. (and I sleep much better!)

DesertOasis profile image
DesertOasis in reply toKat343

How long do you think it takes the castor oil to bring about relief? An hour?

Kat343 profile image
Kat343 in reply toDesertOasis

It seemed like it worked in only a few days. There have been nights where he definitely moved a lot, however, its much better and those 2 nights without using the castor oil were tough - but I wanted to see if it made a difference and I'm convinced it it does. I rub it on the bottoms of the feet and all around his ankles as well and use socks - its oily! I also put t on him after showers as well and we use castor oil packs for liver detox and back pain as well occasionally. Look them up - they are easy and I buy the pack off of Amazon - I like ones with a velcro strap rather than a tied one. Overall, I'd say using the castor oil has decreased his log movements between 40 -70% depending upon the night. I also put it on my face, eyelashes, eyebrows as well... and my feet when I'm not too tired.! Good luck and I hope it makes a very noticeable difference!

The castor oil stopped working after about 2 weeks. Nothing seems to last with me. Works great then stops. So frustrating. Still find getting up and jumping on my rebounder stops it cold 50% of the time.

Kat343 profile image
Kat343 in reply toDeborahok

I'm sorry to hear that and my husband said the same thing after 2 weeks. However, I do know that his RLS is much better from my standpoint pf sleeping with him. He also has foot neuropathy as well so that compounds it, but his leg movements really are better! I am wondering if acupuncture may help.... that thought just popped into my head. Or, call me crazy, maybe hypnosis? One never knows... 😀
